Potiphar's Wife Question
« on: July 29, 2020, 02:47:47 PM »

Quick question regarding Potiphar's Wife (PoC). First sentence says, "If a male human is defeated, capture it to a land of bondage." If there is a Hero banding chain of three and the block is successful (for example they are withdrawn), does each male human in the banding chain get captured or is it "a" male human of the three? Also am I correct in saying that defeat=failed rescue attempt? Thanks in advance!

The trigger can "stack", so defeating 3 male humans would result in capturing all 3 of them. And I just realized she doesn't specify "Hero", so if she's banded to a male human EC, it would trigger her as well.

"Defeat" does not equal "failed rescue attempt". If you block with Potiphar's Wife and play Failed Objective, she didn't defeat the Heroes. Defeat is "losing" the battle.

Quote from: REG 7.0.0.>Glossary>Defeat
A Hero is defeated when:
•The Hero is removed from battle because of an ability.
•The battle ends with the Hero being discarded by the numbers of the Evil Character(s) in battle (except in the case of a mutual destruction).
•The battle ends in a stalemate.

An Evil Character is defeated when:
•The Evil Character is removed from battle because of an ability (except for mutual destruction by mutual removal).
•The battle ends with the Evil Character being discarded by the numbers of the Hero(es) in battle.
•The battle ends with the Evil Character being ignored by a Hero or Heroes in battle and no non-ignored Evil Characters in battle are defeating the Hero.

That struckthrough part is still in the REG but will be removed because of the change to ignore.

Ok, so the Evil Character has to survive the battle while removing the Hero(s) from battle whether it be by ability or numbers?

Not really.

The EC doesn't have to survive - Rizpah's Sackcloth (discard all) is "mutual destruction by mutual removal" and defeats the Heroes.

The EC doesn't have to remove the Heroes - a stalemate (by numbers, or maybe protection) would defeat the Heroes.

Within each rescue attempt, there's really a battle (the characters opposing each other) and a war (the fate of the LS). The 2 results often go together, but it's possible for the EC to lose the battle (be discarded) and win the war (protect the LS). The opposite (Hero loses the battle, but rescues the LS) really only happens if you play an Enhancement that rescues, like Eternal Inheritance.

Probably isn't worth giving up a Lost Soul over, but if you could do that during a battle challenge. . .

You could do Egyptian Magicians banded to Potiphar's Wife and then play Failed Objective and capture EM. I think that would work since the protect on FO is not contingent on the discard.

So it would be considered "defeat" for an evil character (in that case Egyptian Magicians) if he discarded himself with Failed Objective?

Yes. The definitions of defeat I quoted from above don't specify who does in the defeating. However, something like Failed Objective would not trigger "if an opponent defeats your Egyptian", since you are defeating yourself, instead of your opponent beating you.

Would Pot's wife plus a discard all I play, capture a male hero or banded male EC to opponents LOB?  That fits the requirements correct? Plus if it discards all, it protects the LS from rescue.

A "discard all cards in battle" (Rizpah's Sackcloth) would defeat a male Hero, but not a male EC you've banded to. "Discard all cards in battle" is "mutual destruction by mutual removal", which isn't a defeat condition for ECs.

A "discard all ECs in battle" (Failed Objective) would defeat a male EC you've banded to, but not a male Hero.
