You can add me to the list.  Out of around 1000 games it's probably happened to me about 5 times.  Both of those are estimates obviously.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

Even playing decks with lots of defense, it still happens occasionally. I remember it happening the first round at MD states a while ago. Lost 5-0 in three turns, to my little brother, no less :P

I'm pretty sure most everyone who has played the game long enough has. I don't see what this thread is trying to prove.

I beat some guy 7-0 in type 2. We were done before any other type 1 game. Poor guy sorry about that.

Every year I've been at Nationals, it seems to happen at least once in the opening round. After that, I can't really say since I'm playing T2 by then.

Add me to the list.

It happened to me most recently at IA state tournament where Gabe was up 3-0 before I drew one of the fifteen ECs in my deck. Fortunately, Gabe had managed to draw SoG/NJ real early so the fourth and fifth rescued LS followed immediately on the heels of the first three and my pain was quickly ended.

Just to be clear, I'm not blaming the bad draw for the loss, merely the speed of the loss. Since we were done in like three minutes, we played a second (unofficial) game and Gabe beat me like a drum once again--although he decked out the second time (meaning we played at least four turns ;) ), and I think I got to play SoG defensively for one.

I also managed to lose to my son 7-0 in T2-2P in like five minutes at IA states. His initial draw included a rampaging TSA and site access, while my draw included five lost souls.   :'(

Many times T1 games are decided in the first five minutes even if they don't finish in five minutes...

I understand the point of this thread.  I really do.  But just because it's happened to all of us at one time or another doesn't mean it's broken.

Consider this:  At a Nationals one year, I was playing the Monstrosity, a Type I 154-card deck.  I forget who I was playing, but I got a great first draw.  I drew a soul to defend, King David, Guardian of Your Souls, Angel of the Lord, Lahmi, and Ishbibenob.  My opponent also drew a soul and I won the right to go first.  I rescued with King David and, as I found out at the end of the game, my opponent only had Nero and another royalty to block, so I won the soul.  On his turn, he made a rescue with Strong Angel, but I blocked with Lahmi and had an enhancement to play on him, so I won that battle.  I won that game in five straight turns, because even though he had 2 evil characters, he couldn't block me until the final battle, which I use Angel of the Lord to win.  He also was unable to get past my Lahmi-Ishbibenob band early.  He had also drawn Falling Away in his first 8, which did no good against my Guardian.

What rule change would have helped him win?  We both drew lost souls, and the game was still over in minutes, 5-0.

The first change that I could think of in that case is to stop making pre-block ignore cards and make cards to totally nerf that strategy.  Pre-block ignore is why your game you described wasn't any fun, and it is why many other games aren't much fun either.  It is the strategy that is most likely to cause people to quit playing Redemption, and should be destroyed.

Just wait until I stop holding back and let you know what I really think about pre-block ignore :)

The first change that I could think of in that case is to stop making pre-block ignore cards and make cards to totally nerf that strategy.

With the exception of The Garden Tomb and Journey to Egypt (for Egyptians), they already have cards that completely nerf pre-block ignore, Priestly Breastplate being the prime examplar. I'm not sure how you can get any nerfier than "Negate all ignore and repel abilities on Characters and Enhancements." It doesn't even eat up an artifact slot.

All that and yet how many decks have you seen with Priestly Breastplate in it? Does your main deck have Priestly Breastplate in it? The fact that most people won't play the counters available argues that they don't feel pre-block ignore is a real problem.

I do, however, agree that TGT's ignore is slightly op, but it was purposely made that way to force players to abandon splash defenses.

It sounds like someone has a bad case of PIDS (Pre-block Ignore Derangement Syndrome).  ;)

I Googled for info on PIDS and couldn't find anything.  Is it fatal?
