Yeah, MKC and I were talking last night and we deemed that best because I'm hoping people will try all sorts of decks rather than everyone playing hunter for Flare to foil their opponent's Secrets.
-If someone has a reason why Flare is not overpowered in this month's format please feel free to post it as I'm more than open to reconsidering.

I'm in.
Excellent! What's your BattleTag so I can add it to the first post for reference?

Hooray for freeze mage.  Yeah that is my absolute least favorite deck to play against, so I'm sitting this one out.

Sorry to hear that. I'll be doing a different theme for the next tournament so feel free to check back then. :P

I will play again seeing that my Mage and Hunter are my primary 2 decks.

No other cap on cards or build restrictions then?

Yeah, I really don't see how frost mage doesn't own this format without flare. Face hunter is good, but it can come up short.

But then Hunter will always own Mage if Flare was legal. Flare on lethal, gg. It's a Catch 22 either way.

Then there's Pally off to the side eating glue because their secrets are terrible.

Would it help if hunter decks could use 1 Flare rather than 2 or 0? I'm hoping to keep it as balanced as possible so that people can be free to use any of the Heroes and still have a chance.

Limiting it to only 3 of the heroes makes it less appealing as well. (I'm even an Ice Mage player, but even I know that it isn't a fun time for the other person)

Could always try a tournament built on the format that most Hearthstone tournaments run -- You must switch to a different Hero if you lose, and if you win then you must play the same deck the following round. That way the blind pick matchup isn't a hard-counter for all of the games. (It also makes people play with a more diverse set of decks, and requires a wider knowledge of the game to figure out "what do I pick against Hand-Lock?" and similar tactics)

While I was and am still a strong proponent behind being able to switch Heroes if you lose, some or most people participating do not have the expanded collections necessary to create 3 or 4 different Hero decks. However, I still think it is necessary to prevent blowouts from Heroes that naturally matchup poorly against others.

I also would like to see the option of a player being able to ban a Hero from the opponent before the match starts.

Lawfuldog and MKC, if I were to completely throw out the current theme, how exactly would you word your ideas to put into the first post? I'm all for including as many people as possible and the current theme doesn't seem too popular so I'm willing to change.

I'm not sure we need a major rule change outside of maybe what Lawfuldog suggested. Naxx should keep the meta fresh enough for the next month that we should be able to run this month without mixing things up with extra rules or restrictions.

I also would like to see the option of a player being able to ban a Hero from the opponent before the match starts.

For a casual tournament like this, I think this is a bad idea. I don't have the time, money, or skill in Arena to invest in more than one Hero, and the one I'm using right now isn't even completed yet, despite having played Hearthstone fairly regularly since March. If someone bans my choice Hero, I'm left playing a basic no cost deck. Really, it's not even worth it to me to enter the tournament if that rule is put in place because I'll just get slaughtered the moment my opponent chooses my Hero to ban. I think that that is going to benefit people like you and Blake who can consistently run free Arenas, and the rest of us will be severely disadvantaged because of it.

We could just use Hearthstone tournament structure within this and say you have to use all 3 classes in a best of 5 scenario.  It at least forces some variety.

Deckbuilding restrictions and theme have been lifted due to lack of popularity. This tournament will have the same rules as last tournament, with the exception of Lawfuldog's ideas regarding keeping/changing Heroes after rounds based on the result.

MKC and Lawfuldog, are you guys wanting in this month?

It is one additional deck you would have to register under the normal tournament guidelines of registering three. You are still stuck in the same boat of not being able to compete at all with your one Hero if the tournament structure is changed to 3 different Hero decks with the loser changing between rounds. Again, as I've already mentioned, these tournament variations would not be for everyone as everyone does not have enough to construct 3 or 4 decks. But ideally that is the tournament structure I would like to see. It basically comes down to do we make the overall tournament more fair by eliminating unfavorable Hero vs Hero blowouts, or do we eliminate alienating some players from the tournament.

I think I'd like to try what the new rules are this month and we can see how it goes. We'll have more tournaments in later months to tweak it further if something doesn't work out this month.

I'm in for this month (totally forgot to put that in my post). My battletag is Lawfuldog#1874

I'm pretty bad about checking the boards consistently, so feel free to message me in Hearthstone if I'm playing you or something. But I'll do my best to check at least once a day or so.

For this month yes. There are plenty of useful decks that don't use legendaries that people with smaller collections should still be able to make competitive decks. We'll see how it goes and evaluate again for the next one.

Good, good. Because I definitely went and stuck Loatheb in literally every single deck I have.

It's so good.

My apologies for the delay in this, had some life stuff that came up.

We'll start this on Friday 8/15/14 and it may go into September depending on how long people take for each round.

Currently we have 6 participants. Any further sign-ups need to be in before Friday.
