Results for MN State Tournament

There were 62 people in attendance (including myself). I believe everyone had an OK time or better.

Results for Sealed Deck (Closed 2-Player)   4 rounds
    1.  Jeremiah Thiessen    MN
    2.  Keenan Berg  MN
    3.  Jacob Walmsley  MN

Results for Booster Draft   3 rounds
    1.  Ben Nicholls  MN
    2.  Josh Brinkman  MN
    3.  Adam Erickson  MN

Results for Type 1 Two Player   6 rounds  (We were two player short of seven rounds.)
    1.  Scott Reuter  MN
    2.  Martin Miller  MN
    3.  Chris Bany  MN

Results for Type 2 Two Player  3 rounds
    1.  Justin Alstad  MN
    2.  Bill Voigt   MN
    3.  Jayden Alstad  MN

Results Type 1 Multi-Player  4 rounds
    1.  Justin Alstad  MN
    2.  Chris Bany  MN
    3.  Isabelle Reuter  MN

Results for Type 2 Multi-Player  3 rounds
    1.  Justin Alstad  MN
    2.  James Roepke  MN
    3.  Chris Bany  MN

We had 12 Players participate in Type-A.

We also had an excellent turn out for Type-S, a new multi-player category created by Bill Voigt. In honor of Chris Bany and other old-school players in attendance I opened a case of Warriors specifically for this event. Type-S was such a hit that Bill is planning on including it in the NC Regionals.

The winner of Type-S was Jonathon Hanson.

Some of the younger players used their time between rounds to play one of those new-fangled ee-lectronic games--Smashing the Mario Super Brothers or somesuch. As a cantankerous curmudgeon, I took great joy in interrupting their little whoop-de-doo to start announcing the pairings for the next round.

He timed out against a site deck because of a rare mistake.... I should mention the site deck was mine. Oh also losing to Chris in the first round helped....

Hey,

Wow! Quite the Mini-soda sweep! What happened Tim?

It's all part of my master plan to dominate T1-MP in 2011.  The first step of the plan (which I'm currently working on) is to do a lot of losing in the 2009 and 2010 tournament seasons so that players will begin to view me as the old guy that can't hang with the young guns anymore and thus not view me as a threat in T1-MP.

Tschow,

Personally I noted the large number of Alstads in general. And there were only three of them playing. Well, officially. Out of the eighteen places, four of them were Alstad, three of those were first place winners. I'm sure there's something wrong with that.

Great Tournament Matt. Excellent competition. When you have the Twin Cities, Rochester and Austin play groups all at the same tournament its awful hard for an out of stater to win.

Although I do think the Type S competition was fixed.

The youngest Alstad as a matter of fact. While there were only 4 players, he did beat out a very experienced adult to grab 3rd. He also rescued as many LS against Bill as I did (3). The difference was that I held Bill to just 2 LS.

You guys only had 4 T2 players?  I must admit I am surprised... even Ohio state, with the same category schedule, had 8 players for the category....

Personally, I would much rather have played T2 2P. However, given I was traveling for the two weeks prior to the tournament, I simply didn't have a deck ready.

Oh well, all in all, it was a very good tournament.

Everyone was afraid of Guardian I guess. Although us three brave souls gave it our best. I had a timed out lose, Pat was ahead 5-2 but just could not close the deal, and I think Jayden got 6 lost souls.

I do commend your efforts gentlemen, better luck at regionals.  The real question is, how many Plots did you rip against Justin, Bill?  ;)

Excuses, excuses...

The 2008 MN State champ was unable to attend due to a conflict with school.
The son of the 2008 MN State champ was unable to attend due to his father not being able to attend.
I (who took third at the 2008 MN State tournament) was unable to play because I was hosting.
One player--who had an hour-plus drive home after T2-MP which ended at 11:35 on Friday evening--slept through his alarm.
Hanno102 was out of town for a couple weeks prior to the event so he had no time to build a T2 deck.

So, just adding people who are definitely planning on playing T2 at the NC regional--we would have had nine.  Notice also that (unlike Ohio) we didn't accept carpet-baggers from Arkansas just to bump up our numbers.  :P

Bill ripped 2 Plots against me, (in a side battle no less...) which definitely was the reason our game timed out. I ripped 1 against him in an effort to knock out his defense, but it was too late.
