We had 12 Players participate in Type-A.
We also had an excellent turn out for Type-S, a new multi-player category created by Bill Voigt. In honor of Chris Bany and other old-school players in attendance I opened a case of Warriors specifically for this event. Type-S was such a hit that Bill is planning on including it in the NC Regionals.
The winner of Type-S was Jonathon Hanson.
Some of the younger players used their time between rounds to play one of those new-fangled ee-lectronic games--Smashing the Mario Super Brothers or somesuch. As a cantankerous curmudgeon, I took great joy in interrupting their little whoop-de-doo to start announcing the pairings for the next round.
-
go Scott! represent!
congrats to everyone, big kudos to Jonathon Hanson, type s had some beastly competition, I just wish it I wouldn't have had to play you in the semi's.
-
Justin takes half the titles. :P
-
hey,
Wow! Quite the Mini-soda sweep! What happened Tim?
L8er,
Gil
-
He timed out against a site deck because of a rare mistake.... I should mention the site deck was mine. Oh also losing to Chris in the first round helped....
-
Hey,
Wow! Quite the Mini-soda sweep! What happened Tim?
It's all part of my master plan to dominate T1-MP in 2011. The first step of the plan (which I'm currently working on) is to do a lot of losing in the 2009 and 2010 tournament seasons so that players will begin to view me as the old guy that can't hang with the young guns anymore and thus not view me as a threat in T1-MP.
Tschow,
Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly
-
Tim, now you've spoiled your pl-Hey, Tim did so horrible this year that I bet I could probably beat him next year!
-
I notice that one of the youngest Alstads took third in Type 2! :o
-
Personally I noted the large number of Alstads in general. And there were only three of them playing. Well, officially. Out of the eighteen places, four of them were Alstad, three of those were first place winners. I'm sure there's something wrong with that.
-
Hedge - It could be because there was only 4 people playing type two :P. Oh well, I'm sure hes better than me at t2 :(.
Props to Scott and Bell for representing!
-
He does pose a good point
-
Great Tournament Matt. Excellent competition. When you have the Twin Cities, Rochester and Austin play groups all at the same tournament its awful hard for an out of stater to win.
Although I do think the Type S competition was fixed.

The falling of a titan...;)

The youngest Alstad as a matter of fact. While there were only 4 players, he did beat out a very experienced adult to grab 3rd. He also rescued as many LS against Bill as I did (3). The difference was that I held Bill to just 2 LS.
-
He's better than I am. Then again...
-
You guys only had 4 T2 players? I must admit I am surprised... even Ohio state, with the same category schedule, had 8 players for the category....
Kirk
-
Nathan played T1; I believe he usually plays T2, correct?

We had 20 people play T2 MP on Friday night...but everyone wanted to play T1 2P I guess... :-\
-
Personally, I would much rather have played T2 2P. However, given I was traveling for the two weeks prior to the tournament, I simply didn't have a deck ready.
Oh well, all in all, it was a very good tournament.
-
Its all the practice I get at the fast food joints

Kirk
Everyone was afraid of Guardian I guess. Although us three brave souls gave it our best. I had a timed out lose, Pat was ahead 5-2 but just could not close the deal, and I think Jayden got 6 lost souls.
-
I do commend your efforts gentlemen, better luck at regionals. The real question is, how many Plots did you rip against Justin, Bill? ;)
Kirk

Excuses, excuses...
The 2008 MN State champ was unable to attend due to a conflict with school.
The son of the 2008 MN State champ was unable to attend due to his father not being able to attend.
I (who took third at the 2008 MN State tournament) was unable to play because I was hosting.
One player--who had an hour-plus drive home after T2-MP which ended at 11:35 on Friday evening--slept through his alarm.
Hanno102 was out of town for a couple weeks prior to the event so he had no time to build a T2 deck.
So, just adding people who are definitely planning on playing T2 at the NC regional--we would have had nine. Notice also that (unlike Ohio) we didn't accept carpet-baggers from Arkansas just to bump up our numbers. :P

Kirk
Bill ripped 2 Plots against me, (in a side battle no less...) which definitely was the reason our game timed out. I ripped 1 against him in an effort to knock out his defense, but it was too late.

Were there any out of staters there? I don't remember seeing any.
Tschow,

Nobody from out of state was there... ::)
-
It's even harder for out of staters to place when Nobody from out of state is in attendance. :D

Oh SNAP!
Them's Fightin words MJB. ;)

Them's Fightin words MJB. ;)
They are indeed. If the eight or so of you decided to make the trip to the North Central Regional on July 17-18, I'm fairly certain you would be able to force me to eat those words. :P
You could also try out Type-S.
-
Well, I register my state as Florida for every tournament I enter, not Arkansas... ;)
What does Type-S exactly entail?
Kirk
-
It's pretty much indescribable...so you'll just have to come to North Central Regionals to see for yourself... 8)
-
Very true, I myself was playing another category and could not participate which was very unfortunate.
-
it's a beautiful thing, that's for sure. I'm going to try to get a group together and start some hardcore games so I'm ready for Jonathon.

I'm working on "tweaking" RTS a little bit, so it would be possible to play online.
I hope the "New and Improved RTS(tm)" makes such tweaking easier.
-
We will be using foils at North Central Regionals so game play will be a little different than MN State.
-
Oooooh, shiny - just like the TeP cards!
-
The best part about Matt running MN State was NOT ONE ANB WAS PLAYED IN BOTH CATAGORIES OF TYPE 2 ;D
-
The best saddest part about Matt running MN State was NOT ONE ANB WAS PLAYED IN BOTH CATAGORIES OF TYPE 2 :'(
Everytribe, I fixed your typos.

I didn't notice any typos... :D

Could someone please explain what Type-S actually is? Different deck-building rules? or different play rules? or what?
Mike

Type S is a straw wrapper shooting contest. It started out goofing around in a restaurant after a redemption tournament.
This year at MN state we had an official Type S tournament with prizes for the winner. At North Central Regionals we will have 2 catagories. One for distance and one for accuracy. We will be using foil wrappers for the distance catagory.
Prizes for Type S will be a Angel Wars Action Figure plus an uncut sheet. Both catagories will be run at the same time so you can only compete in one catagory.
Hopefully some year we will run type S at Nationals.

Did it start after nats when we went to buca's? with that ONE kid there?
-
It actually started before that. After a regional tournament. I always get yelled at by the other adults for shooting straw wrappers so I thought might as well make it an official catagory. Then I wouldn't get yelled at.

I always thought it started at IHOP...

:rollin:
Well done in the tournament, Bill! And to Chris! Nice to have us old folks show the younger ones some new tricks. ;)
-

IHOP was probably the place with the most witnesses. It actually started back in my college days at Winona State. I was eating ice cream with some buddies at a Bridgman’s Restaurant when a waitress bent over to wipe off a table. It was a direct hit!
It and alot of other things are well documented in my new book coming out after Nationals, "The Legend of Wild Bill".

I will buy it. ;D

I'll take a copy! Who should I make the check out to? ;)
