Kinda like the fact that in some states, you need one form of ID to buy a gun, but two forms if you want to pay with a check.

Maybe because you don't have a Constitutional right to a checking account?

Guns can be used in murder. I've never heard of anyone killed with a $50 bill. (Someone will inevitably find a story somewhere on google where someone was drowned in nickels or something, and I welcome you to post that story because it would be a hilarious read, but you get my point) Do I think that ALL guns should be extremely tightely regulated? No. I would like it to be a little harder to get anything that can't be used in practical situations, such as hunting or defending yourself, but other than that I think one form of ID and a background check is okay for shot guns and pistols. If you're buying an assualt rifle or an AK-47, I am a little worried and might want to run some more checks.

Anyway the MPAA released a statement yesterday that made them look like (more of) idiots. I'm going to put it in a spoiler tag because the title of the article does contain a synonym for butt.

Spoiler (hover to show)

The scary part, right here in Springfield, MO you can buy a M16A2 assault rifle in wal-mart for $300 bucks with just your standard hunting license.

I was never saying it was a party platform issue. I was going by his record do far. For example he said that within a year of his term Gitmo would be shut down, and is it shut down no it is still open.

He said it during his campaign, then when elected he consulted his generals and found out it was a bad idea. In this case he has already reviewed the bill. If you expect every politician to be able to keep every promise they make you do not understand politics and are slightly delusional.

I ment to put can't there. That was a typo. No I am not a politician and never want to be one
Incidentally, my father retired a few years ago.  He's had a lifelong interest in politics, and so when there was an opening at the county level, he decided to run, and won.  He also promised that he'd arrive here (my college) around 3PM on Sunday.  Should I not trust him?

/Making sweeping statements is fun!
I said you can't always, not that you can never trust them. Those are two very different statements right there. The kind I was talking about were the washington dc politicians, not local or county ones.
So you make a general sweeping statement, and then when presented with facts to the contrary, change your position?  Hmm, sounds like the aforementioned H.W. Bush, and many other politicians (including many now about SOPA/PIPA)

Would I be unable to trust my dad if he was a US Senator?

Again you are saying that I said never trust a politician. How about you actually read what I type first. Besides most local ones tend to keep their word better than the higher up ones are less trustworthy.

And I do not expect them to keep every promise they make only a idiot would, plus I didn't even vote for the moron in the first place.

Careful:

Quote from: Matthew 5:22
But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot [aka moron], you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

Well considering you are 19 you obviously didn't vote for him. I wouldn't call him a moron, he, at least, understands the concept of separation of power and checks and balances.

Edit: HUGE blow to SOPA/PIPA just went down. Megaupload.com, the top website that was has been cited in the pro-SOPA argument, has been shut down. Why is this good? Because the backers of SOPA said keep saying the need the new legislation to go after sites like MegaUpload that aren't US companies and the US supposedly had no legal answer for. Well the DOJ just made it quite clear that they don't need SOPA/PIPA to take down these sites, they're just fine thank you.

Double Edit: L O L

Triple Edit: Anonymous is not amused. Go get em boys.

So far Anon has taken down the RIAA, MPAA, DoJ, and just added the US Copyright office. It just got real.

Meme generates.

The US government has officially opened Pandora's box, this is the largest coordinated hacking effort ever. At the moment there are a minimum of 5,600 Anons involved in the effort, 6 sites are down with more on the way.

Basically the government tried to close off the Internet mafia's territory and the Internet mafia is fighting to defend itself?

Love that meme.  So many uses.

Basically the government tried to close off the Internet mafia's territory and the Internet mafia is fighting to defend itself?
Yeah.  It's quite clear the Megaupload was punitive.

it hasn't gone down so maybe they changed their mind, but they are pretty much saying screw everyone right now. 3 government agencies, 2 major record labels, the MPAA....

barely, and you may end up on the list of IPs for investigation. If you are going to participate and put your head on the chopping block like that you might as well just go full DDoS

I think I'll keep my neck far away.  VC's don't like investing in people with a criminal record.

They might have deleted it. It said "Good thing apple wasn't in charge of new years or instead of 2012 we would've gotten 2011S"

Anonymous had restored MegaUpload's streaming video service but the server seems to have crashed.
