Again I agree with you.  I have never thought of anarchy that way.  I just know that Webster's was the standard when I was in school, and what all of my teachers insisted that we use.  This is the first case I can recall where I find myself disagreeing with it.  But since this is definition "B", they may be referring to the everyday use (by most people) to equate chaos with "anarchy".

This is all pretty irrelevant since every opinion except mine is going to be deleted pretty soon.

Guys, this is here to raise awareness of an awful idea. Please keep all posts on that, rather than the definition of minimalism.

Would you please stop censoring the censoring thread in order to promote stopping censoring? It's horribly ironic.

Either YMT's snapped and started trolling, or there's some alternate definition of censorship I've missed.

No offense, but censor your child yourself. Don't push that job upon the government and the rest of us.

No offense taken, since that was the type of censorship I was referring to.  ;)

Parents censoring questionable material from their children (which I support) is a vastly different matter than the government censoring any website that allows users to share links.

The first thing to note about the topic of internet censorship is that it won't be blocking what most parents probably want it to block. Any type of pornography that's currently legal isn't going to be spontaneously blocked should this bill pass, nor will extremely controversial sites like /b/ and it's ilk. Rather, the intention right now is to block websites that allow the illegal downloading of music and videos. That's why this bill started, and that's what it will at least originally attempt to stop. This could indeed turn into a slippery slope, as it's not that far a leap from this type of censorship to more serious forms (I'm talking Big Brother type censorship). It's a long slope, but a slippery one all the same. Regardless, I do not see pornography ever becoming illegal, in spite of the hopes of parents that this bill might eventually do that.

However, I don't believe that this bill will ultimately accomplish what they want it to. Will it help? Absolutely. However, I think the likely action is that for many people who suddenly find their ability to download things blocked, they'll resort to the "deep web", which essentially consists of a group of sites with obscure and often random page names that don't get hit by search engines. Since it's impossible for the government to track every single page on the internet, this allows extremely illegal materials to exist on the internet without fear of retribution. I've also heard stories of people hiring hit men via this method. This sounds like it's fake, but this is all 100% true. The point I'm trying to make is that, when restricted from the current methods of downloading, more and more people risk exposure to unspeakable material. Censorship could very well hurt as much as help.

you will never stop piracy. ever. the only thing they can do with this bile is block domain names, you can still get to the sites by using their IP addresses. the only thing this bill will accomplish is the complete destruction of the DNS system. Have fun typing in 69.171.24.11 every time you want to check your facebook kids.

Yep.  I use OpenDNS to block both ads and other objectionable content.  However, I won't be allowed to do so if this bill passes.

I just called my congressman to politely say my disdain at this.

SOPA was shelved, PIPA is still going. Wikipedia will be blacking out their site tomorrow in protest.

Tomorrow, Wikipedia, Reddit, and Mozilla (makers of Firefox) plan to "black out" their websites in protest of SOPA.  Google also plans to link to information about SOPA on their homepage, as well as explain why they are against it.  Read more here:

Congress is made up of a bunch of old men who don't understand what this will do to the internet. Some of them are blatantly proud of that. They brought someone in to explain how this would destroy the DNS system and one senator stopped him during his presentation, made a nerd joke and that was it.

The MPAA and RIAA are powerful lobbies with lots of connections on Capitol Hill.  I'm hoping they get shot down, as my entire career depends on this not being passed.
