Online Sealed Deck Tournament--Third Round Begins!
« on: April 14, 2010, 07:05:55 PM »
0
So, sort of based on the way ROUT decks were generated, I thought of an interesting way to play Sealed deck online. Here's how it would work:

Whoever wants to play would post here. Each person would PM me what three style packs they would like (and because it's all virtual, any booster is available, including Warriors and Women). From there, I would randomly generate a set of 10 (or 8 ) cards from that set, one rare or ultrarare included where appropriate for each requested pack, and reply to you with your packs, as well as which deck you'll be using based on a coin flip (G or H). Then you build a deck as normal for a Sealed deck tournament, and send me your decklist. Once it's approved, you're in the tournament (which will be swiss style, or possibly round robin if there is a small enough number of people). Prizes are yet to be determined, but I do have a bunch of Redemption cash that I could spare, and quite a few extra TxP as well...

See following post for first round pairings!

Tournament Rules:
0. RTS and Hamachi ARE required. Sorry for those of you who can't use them. I just don't need the extra complication.

1. Let me know that you want to participate by this Sunday, April 18, at 11:59 pm CST. Also, send me your requests for which packs you would like.

2. You will then be randomly paired up for the first round, and one of the members of each pair will receive a G deck, the other an H deck (I'll let you know which one; it will be randomly chosen by coin flip).

3. You will have until Saturday, April 24, at 11:59 pm CST to complete any trades with your first-round partner, and send me a decklist. I will be checking to make sure that all cards that you and your partner are using are ones that either you or he received. You may trade any cards in your possession (cards from the G or H decks included). You must send me evidence of all trades that take place. If I do not receive a decklist by the deadline, you will be disqualified from the tournament, and your partner gets a bye.

4. The first round will start Monday, April 26, at 12:00 am CST, and last for one week. The tournament will be swiss style, so when you report games, be sure to include the scores. I currently plan to have four rounds (for a total of four weeks).

5. Deck building reqirements are as follows: regular T1 deck building, except that only one single-color site is allowed in the deck. You may have multiples of any cards except dominants and multicolored characters/enhancements.

6. Weapons do stick, as the rule that they don't was changed a few years ago, at least at all tournaments I've been in.

7. Name-on-name bonus DOES apply. So if you're lucky enough to get the G deck and Covenant of Moses in your Patriarchs pack, you're very fortunate.

8. That's all for now. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. If you have any questions, PM me or post here. Have fun!

Question: How would trading work? Also: I assume TEXP is out for packs? Since it is superior to any normal pack?

Hey, I'd love to participate.

Do we pick our boosters before or after we decide which deck we're using?

Also would it be possible for us to trade in any way? We could be paired with anouther player so we could trade with or something like that.

Well, that's 4+ players! So go ahead and send me an email with your three pack choices. Any sets except starters, tins, and TexP are available.

i'll play.....

some how i know the proffs pack is going to include a KOT, AOC P (on account of an "error pack"  and a FA

To avoid such baseless accusations, I will not be participating, just hosting. So no worries. :)

Question: How would trading work? Also: I assume TEXP is out for packs? Since it is superior to any normal pack?

I guess trading can happen like usual. I'll pick first pairs and give you guys a few days to trade before you submit your decks. Thanks for reminding me, I haven't been played Sealed in awhile.

Also may I pick Blue Packs?

If you would like to...

Hey, I'd love to participate.

You pick packs, then I tell you what deck you're using, just like normal sealed deck.

Also would it be possible for us to trade in any way? We could be paired with anouther player so we could trade with or something like that.

See above.

Thanks Prof.  I haven't played Sealed Deck in forever, so I couldn't remember exactly how it went.

Any suggestions on what packs to pick? ;)

I don't have time to play in this, but I think it sounds like a great idea.  I would suggest renaming it to something more catchy though.  Maybe TOAST (The Online All-packs Sealed Tournament).

Thanks Prof.  I haven't played Sealed Deck in forever, so I couldn't remember exactly how it went.

My personal choice is usually one Patriarchs, one Apostles, and one Priests or Kings. Each of the G and H decks have an OT side and an NT side (i.e. G has OT offense and NT defense, H has NT offense and OT defense) so that way each side can be helped. Priests and Kings have better commons than the other two, so they can be helpful as well. Also, they have a lot of large-numbered characters, and battles are won BTN more often in Sealed than regular play.

But of course it's up to you. So far no one has taken me up on Warriors or Women yet, so you could be the first. Some people in the past take three Women: once Chris Bany did that and got two Falling Aways, and he ended up trading one for his opponent's Burial.

I will also post some reminders about deck building rules in the first post.

EDIT: First post has been updated with tournament rules and information!

Sounds good. I have an Excel spreadsheet that allows me to generate random packs in seconds, so this is no problem at all.

If anyone wants to know my method (in order to replicate it) PM me your email and I'll send you a copy of the Excel spreadsheet. It's pretty nifty.

...something more catchy...TOAST (The Online All-packs Sealed Tournament).
Really?  No response to this.  I at most hoped for an "I love it, and changing of the thread name.  I at least hoped for an "I hate it, that sounds dumb".  But no response at all.  That was very unexpected.
