ACW Ideas Thread

Redemption should really have alternate ways to win. A win caused my the evil side doesn't really fit with the game, so only "good guy" wins are possible. My idea was "Convert ___ amount of evil characters, and if this happens, you win. Definetly needs to be hammered out, but a basic idea. Or redeem ___ amount of converted evil characters.
To the Pain!

Why exactly is everyone on the AWC bandwagon?

Pretty much this. Alternate Win Conditions often just create MORE ways to get a bad draw and lose. This is true with Pokemon's rule that you lose if all of your pokemon get knocked out. It's necessary the way the game works, but it can lead to some really unfortunate metagames and situations. Redemption is currently at a really good point where you won't draw all of your lost souls and no ecs 95% of the time if you build your deck correctly.

For me personally, I like to think of new mechanics or new ideas for the game (especially after Gabe's free reign thread) and AWCs are something that the game doesn't currently have so it's fun to come up with them.

Plus AWCs only increase the options when deck-building as it gives you a whole new goal to build toward (which means even if you use the same themes as the normal win condition, you'd build them different ways).

It's probably just a fad, though; like TC Heroes. ::)

I came up with one for evil once . If you controlled 200 or more Pharisee/Sadduccee you win the game.

nm, it was more playable than that:

Yavneh
Type: Site • Brigade: Green • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: When this site is occupied and you use a search ability, You may place a 1/3 grey NT human Pharisee token into the Field of Battle. • Identifiers: Jew • Verse:  • Availability: Token FTW booster packs ()

Men of the Great Assembly
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Black/Grey • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: If used by a Pharisee or Sadducee, place on High Priest Palace. If you control 20 or more Pharisee/Sadducee, you win the game. • Identifiers: NT, False Religious Practice • Verse:  • Availability: Tokens FTW booster packs ()

I still support the concept of TC characters. That could lead to some really cool concepts.

I'm all for the concept of Heroes active in territory (I recently posted a NCI with that mechanic) I just don't think they should be "TC". :P

Why not? It's a pretty clear concept and it eliminates wordy identifiers.

You guys are kinda derailing from the main idea of the thread... Also, the thread topic should be "AWC ..." instead of "ACW ...". Just nitpicking. :P

I'm not really a fan of alternate win conditions and agree with Westy that Redemption is pretty good as is and there shouldn't be AWCs, especially in T2. Men of Great Assembly would be too potent in T2, in my opinion. All you'd need are plenty of False Peaces and High Priest Caiaphas to search out Pharisees and Sadducees or High Priest's Palace. That would get even more rediculous with Yavneh and Scribe to go with it. The AWCs have to make a bit more sense, too. Having a bunch of Phars and Sadds is not really a logical or biblical way to be able to win the game. browarod's idea of Thousand Year Reign makes a little more sense but ultimately, I think the main goal should remain to just have to rescue Lost Souls to stay more in line of what the idea of Redemption is about. While they may be fun to test, I definitely don't think Redemption NEEDS alternate win conditions.

Of course it doesn't need it, AWC's are usually always for fun.

The idea behind the win con is that the Pharisee's and Sadducee's just kinda take over like world domination. The power level could be brought down. It was just a way to show what an alternate win con would look like in this game. The site was an example of a token generator. Something that would be new to the game and yet not too OP'd. Just some fun idea's.

I agree that they could be fun to test and stuff but I was just saying we don't need them in response to Minion who originally posted saying that we should have ACWs.

Sadducee/Pharisee world domination doesn't seem like a good way to win a game titled Redemption, if you ask me. I feel like if we did have AWCs, which I don't see happening anytime soon, that they should at least be ways to win with the Good side. As Minion noted, a win caused by the evil side doesn't really fit the game.

I agree with this. Any AWC's in Redemption would need to be on the good side in order to properly fit with Redemption. I'm sure a way could be created for an evil theme to help out (much like there are good themes that help with the generally "evil" deck discard theme) but the win condition itself would have to be good-aligned.
