3 rrod is usually covered by microsoft free of charge, warranty or not. its the other rings that are not (1, 2, or 4). microsoft has been very considerate with players experiencing the biggest hardware hiccup in history, and i have had all of my 360's repaired free of charge with a turnaround of about 2 or 3 weeks in my experience. they'll even usually throw in some free gifts with your repaired console as well (to date, i've received free subs, points, controllers, wireless headsets, and faceplates on return repairs).

Cheap as free = happy timez. Would be funny if they included a Turt Beach HS in your returned console.

haha yeah, that would be pretty cool, but when i meant headset, i just meant the microsoft ones...they just send you their own product. they dont hold a candle to my hpx's, but still, kinda hard to beat a free $50 wireless headset.

I bought one of the first 360's.  And it died and they fixed it and gave it a year extension I believe.  Then it died again with the same problem.  I thought, hey, they'll just fix it consider'n its the same problem. Well they were gonna fix it, but for $99.  I thought that was a total rip.  I escalated as high as I could through xbox and microsoft and they all told me the same thing.  $99 or get a new one.  Well might as well put that towards a new blu ray player too, so I went ahead with the ps3.  I loved the 360, but when that happens, it's time to change imo.

Daniel

p.s. I thought the graphics were better on the 360 and xbl is better than psn imo, but with the free blu-ray, free built in wireless, and free online game'n, i'd say they're basically equal.  Just matters which one you like the best I guess.  Either one kills PC too, what?? haha.

consoles > pc.

pc's require too much management and maintenance. i much prefer the simplicity of plug and play with consoles. get in, get out, get on with your life.

and nothing beats playing mw2 in full 1080p on a 50" led.

Playing CoD4 on a PC > MW2 regardless.  ;)

And, PC's can be plugged in to TV's as well.

Maybe so, but it is infinitely easier to hack a PC game than a console game. It still happens to both, but it is more frequent with PC games. Besides, to have a good computer that keeps up with grafx and awesome games means you have to buy better grafx cards and whatnot. Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii are all one-time buys. Unless you don't yell loud enough at servants of Bill Gates.

the console hardware also stands up considerably well during its lifespan as well. its not like the best pc videocards out there completely blow the ps3 or 360 out of the water in terms of graphical improvement. as long as i have my hd, im cool.

Non-colored HD stinks. Hotel HDTV's FTL.

well, i've been playing metroid: other m alot recently...and while a great looking game for the wii system, i've caught myself thinking over and over...'this would look way better on ps3 or xbox 360'. i really cant stand watching non-hd material anymore...hd is the best thing since sliced bread.

Point 1.) correct.  However, "stands up well" means "no games with better graphics" rather than "can handle new graphics".
Point 2.) Absolutely incorrect.  We can hit resolutions much better than yours, and then add another monitor (or five)

I'm running a 9800 GTX, released in 2008, and I've never had an issue graphics wise.  I can run anything (including Crysis) maxed at full FPS.  And then I can alt tab to Chrome/Firefox/IE (Hey, look, I get to choose my browser) on my secondary monitor.

I wasn't saying that hacks for the 360 don't exist, I was just saying it's easier to hack the PC than console.

Both? I suppose if you knew how to do it, it could be easier to "hack" consoles (lagswitching), but opening up a controller or 360 without any knowledge, you're gonna screw your warranty. With PC's, sometimes all you have to do is open a text file or something and change a few numbers to unlock stuff you shouldn't unlock for awhile (Battlefield 2 said hi).

A verifiable study requires a link.
And dealing with hackers is much easier on PC's, and doubly so with Dedicated Servers.

...ok, thats great, but just because you tack on a few extra lines of pixels still doesnt mean you're blowing the ps3's and 360's out of the water. 'blowing it out of the water' would be, say, if pc's had 360/ps3 graphics while current gen consoles had playstation/n64 era graphics or lower. lets not forget that when new next gen consoles hit, they set the bar for graphical performance (albeit which pc then has to catch up and surpass a bit), but the graphical performances of next gen consoles to pc's is never a huge vastly difference before the console cycles out of its lifespan for the next console.

yeah, thats cool you can customize your monitor setup, but 5 monitors on the near-same caliber of quality hdtvs (which they never will be) would be far too costly to reap significant benefits imo. im perfectly fine on my massive led for now (and 3-d later on; good luck with that, pc).

When did I ever say "Blowing out of the water"?

And we've had 3D for years.  http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-3d-games.html

i said pc graphics do not blow console graphics out of the water. you said that was incorrect. thus, that has been the topic of discussion.

as for nvidia '3-d' games, 99% of the excellent list haven't even been released in the past 1 to 2 years (after a quick scan, i can say with almost 100% certainty none of that list are current games...have fun playing alvin and the chipmunks in '3-d'). as such, i suspect these 3-d graphics you boast of is nothing more than trying to add shine to miserable graphics, and is nothing compared to the true 3-d found in movie theaters or recently released 3-d tv's. its obvious none of the games on the list were geared towards 3-d (so one can only assume horrible execution), whereas 3-d games are being developed right now as we speak for consoles.

lulz at nvidia '3-d'. can we even call it that? you know, you can add as much perfume as you want to crap...but in the end, its still crap.

...oh, btw, killzone 3 has a confirmed release date of feb 22, 2011. goodbye pc graphics, hello true 3-d (and hello sony bravia 3dtv for me).

The ironic part of all this is that you're defending a console made by Microsoft.
