Orange, but how?
« on: January 02, 2010, 12:47:14 PM »

I've been acquiring the cards to build a Type-2 Orange defense, but it's currently at aroudn 60 cards and I need to cut it down severely.

I've got the "Must-Haves" in, such as Gates of Hell x2, Wandering Spirit x5, the 0/4 Demon x3, King of Tyrus x2, etc...

Are there different ways to building a Type-2 orange defense? Is there some sort of "Top-Tier" way to play orange? Or is it decent when it's mixed with another brigade?

Thanks,
"Booster Ben"

Have you tried placers with orange?

Nope. Didn't think it would be too steady of a defense, since you have to setup High Places and whatnot.

Well setting up Hp is as easy as a zach splash, depending on your offense. Idk if it would or not but It wouldn't be too hard.

what placers does orange have.  I feel like it's best one is destructive sin and that doesn't even need HP.
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

Yeah I've wanted to try that... seems like it could be viable.

I've pulled it off. Turn before I used 2 possesed+corrupted+BOTS on his big hero+ poison of dragons on his small one + PBCalamity To set up all my opp's heroes to either let me be immune and or be gone. He made a ra with the bots hero (I had lost most of my ecs the turn before I did that and the only one left was the 1/1 who died that turn due to my lack of idols) I blocked with Kot (Blindness has been up the whole time of course). To make a 10/12 FBTN, Immune, CBN EC. It was fun, even if it was pointless.

This doesn't include TexP but I have an orange T2 deck that primarily uses Bronze Laver and Evil Spawn, and its fairly effective (however it has some problems with TSA) I don't know how important any of the TexP orange cards are to my stratagy (I do use wandering spirit now though)

VERY IMPORTANT.  Awesome orange combo that doesn't even require GoH.

Spirit of Temptation to Gomer (or any other human bander) to Evil Spawn.

Spirit of Temptation allows you to put a card from your hand onto the bottom of your deck.  Evil Spawn can put that card straight into battle.

You can add any number of other demon banders to the beginning of this (ie Wandering Spirit).
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

My favorite T2 combo with Orange is a little difficult to set up, but if you do it's infinite:

Set Gomer aside with Habitation of Demons (play it off Seven Sons of Sceva or use the old Gomer).
Once Gomer is back, activate any Artifact that depicts and idol (Household Idols, Golden Calf, Ashera Pole, etc.)
Band Gomer to Demon Behind the Idol using her SA, DBtI puts Worshiping Demons under your deck.
Using Gomers gained banding ability, bring Evil Spawn into battle.
Evil Spawn's SA plays Worshiping Demons from the bottom of your deck.
The battle ends and souls are protect from rescue.
Make sure you have large enough numbers to stay alive and defeat the attacking Hero.
If you need more numbers add a Fallen Angel or 5 to the banding chain.

Not easy to pull off but when you do you've got an infinite block that your opponent can't do much about.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

Oooooh, I'm liking both of those combos.

My only worry with your combo, Gabe, is with so many people using Gold with the new Territory converts. That would be a pretty simple way to stop Gomer. (Lucky enough for me, I'm the only one here in Texas that plays Gold.) But other than that, it couldn't be too hard to pull off.

Green Prophets (Habakkuk Stands Watch, Hidden Treasures, etc.) could also cause you some problems by shuffling Gomer.

I like Redemption Cousin's as a simple strategy, that's really awesome! I never thought to do that. Also, Gabe's is amazing if you buy some time (although I had heard of this combo before).

one that i like is gomer set aside with habitation, then on a rescue attempt gomer bands to spirit of temptation (through habitation), who bands to herod agrippa II. gomer then uses her own ability to band to enchanter. unnegateable capture.

I assume you have some non-demon orange ECs in there like Damsel with Spirit of Divination, Seven Sons of Sceva, and Enchanter?  Also Spiritual Realm?  Three Nails, A Child is Born and Women as Snares can really wreak havoc on demon defenses, but I'm sure you already thought of all this.

I have been playing orange for quite a while and haven't had any problem with any of those, however I don't think anyone in my playgroup even has A Child is Born, 3-Nails is not a problem for a well built demon defense

two things to rember
being at 100 cards is not important, becuase dominants are not as game breaking, instead you need to be able to consitantly need to be able to block.  if it takes an extra 10 defensive cards to make sure you get more consitant blocks its better than being at 100 cards.

second a pure orange deck is completly countered by white or white purple splash.

The way to play Orange is combo, combo, combo. In addition to the combos mentioned already, HoH+WS+TD+GoH is an infinite block until they can get rid of HoH or shuffle your deck. Alternately, they can attack with a Hero whose numbers are low enough to get initiative against your 3/7, in which case you either activate Crown of Thorns (bringing your numbers down to a more manageable 3/1) or block with KoT and hope they don't have Zeal/AoCP/ACiB.

Basically, Orange is the king of infinite block combos. Just make sure you've got DD, WD, or another way to stop AoCP from ruining your life.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Wasting Disease stops all abilities that allow a player to play an enhancement. This means that your opponent can't just walk in with Etheopian Treasurer and play AoCP to clean out your territory before you block.
