Sowing the Seed is placed on an Assyrian EC in territory while Assyrian Camp is up. When the character reaches 0, what happens?

Sowing the Seed Play-as: Selected human Evil Character decreases 2/2 per turn. If Evil Character reaches */0 or less, convert that character to a green brigade Hero and reset abilities (*/*) to face value. If converted, holder must place Sowing the Seed on another human evil Character in territory. Effect is ongoing.

Assyrian Camp Play-as: Protect Assyrian Evil Characters in your territory from convert and capture abilities and discard unless King Hezekiah is in play or set-aside.

The Assyrian is protected both from the conversion and all discards (including discard by game rule for toughness */0 or less).  Therefore, neither happens.  He just sits in territory with a toughness of */0, protected from the discard.  STS stays on him, because the convert never happened (and the "then" in the ability requires it to move to the next part, almost like a "to").

As long as he is protected, he just sits there with STS on him.  Now, once he enters battle (and all abilities complete), he'd be converted at that moment.  The card is not CBN or CBI, because only the "place" is CBN on a place card.  The ability itself is continuously reactivating and waiting for the trigger of */0 without convert protection.  So, the Assyrian now has SI to interrupt/negate STS, if he can.  Otherwise, he is converted and removed from battle.

I agree that there would be no conversion, no discard, and STS remains.  But why doesn't the EC decrease below 0 on defense?  And offense, for that matter?

His abilities reset to */* (face value) and he starts decreasing all over again!!!! :p
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

I would actually agree with redemptioncousin on this one. The reset to face value is an and with the convert, it's not dependent on the convert so I would think if the character is protected from conversion they would reset to face value and then begin decreasing again.

I agree that's how the play-as reads, but I don't agree with the play-as.  I don't think "Becomes a green hero with abilities returned to face value" should be convert and reset to face value but rather "is converted to a green hero with abilities reset to face value," which in my opinion would have the reset dependent upon the conversion.

I was kidding.  The play-as is definitely wrong in this case and I was kinda pointing that out.

I was kidding.  The play-as is definitely wrong in this case and I was kinda pointing that out.

The Play-As is indeed wrong.  It adds/changes the meaning of the original special ability, and so should be disregarded, as there is no errata.

Actual ability: Selected human Evil Character decreases 2/2 per turn. At */0 or less, Character becomes a Green brigade Hero with abilities (*/*) at face value. Then Sowing the Seed is placed on another human Evil Character in territory and continues.

The "becomes...with abilities (*/*)" means that it does not go to face value unless it converts.  Be careful posting the Play-As without actually posting the original ability ;)

Ah, I missed the first time that the OP had posted the Play-As rather than the actual ability. My bad. I agree with Drrek/Redoubter's assessment.

That is one of the Play As that is being modified in my ongoing project to correct Play As/Erratas. The Play As should read as follows:

Place on a human Evil Character. While this remains on an Evil Character, decrease the Evil Character this card is placed on 2/2 per turn. If that Evil Character is */0 or less, convert that character to a Green Hero with abilities (*/*) at face value, then place Sowing the Seed on another human Evil Character in that territory.

It's a very awkward ability, and the Apostles are probably the biggest reason this project is such a big undertaking (still trying to figure out what to do with Timothy... :-X).

So, it ends up being played as redoubter said in the first post?

In that case, would it work to have 2kH on the EC with Sowing, and when he enters battle play Forgotten History? It doesn't negate STS, but also doesn't give it a chance to activate. Methinks that would just return it to territory, same situation as before the block. Or does it have a chance to activate after the block but before returning to territory?
Also, would it begin progressing into negative numbers while protected from discard and conversion?
