EDIT - These changes, along with some others mentioned in the second post here, are effective as of 8-13-26.

We’re excited to share with you some changes coming for the 2026-2027 Tournament Season! These changes will not take effect until after Nationals 2026, but we want to get the information to you now so players can begin to make preparations.

TYPE 1

We will support two Type 1 - 2 Player categories at all levels of tournaments.

Type 1 - 2 Player “Limited” (formerly called “rotation"). This is similar to Type 1 as you know it today.

Type 1 - 2 Player “Unlimited” (formerly called “classic”). This format will support the pool of all cards released in the game. It will be available at all levels of tournaments, including State, Regional and National tournaments.

Teams will undergo some adjustments, which are still being vetted by the elder team. More details to come.

All Type 1 categories will have a deck size of 50-70 cards.

TYPE 2

Type 2 - 2 Player will undergo some changes to simplify the deck building rules and make the format more accessible to players. The format will continue to use the “Limited” card pool.

This format will allow 2 copies of a card per deck, regardless of brigade and type, except for Dominants and Lost Souls which are limited to 1 copy per deck. Decks will continue to require a balance of good and evil cards.

Type 2 decks must be between 100-140 cards. The Reserve size will be increased from 15 to 20 cards.

Experience credit will no longer be used in Type 2.

All constructed categories will support a unique ban list tailored to that category.

More details will be coming between now and August 2026 when these changes begin.

The updated Deck Building Rules implementing these changes is now available on Cactus' downloads page. There are also updates to some of the Tournament documents available there, described here.

The document also includes updates to the Teams Rules, mentioned but not described above, to make the category more accessible and make the format feel more like a partnership for the teammates:
- Teammates will sit next to one another.
- Teammates will take one shared turn.
- Shared areas and card types will add the following: Sites, Artifacts and Artifact pile. This limits a team to one Artifact activation on the Artifact pile for their shared turn.
- Teams decks are not limited to 1 copy of a Dominant per team, however a team may only collectively play 1 copy per game. Those copies will be tracked in the team's Land of Redemption.
- Teams will have one shared battle phase. While only one player can attack/block, either player may play an Enhancement on their team's character in battle when the team has initiative.
- All Lost Souls will be played as meek. Players are not required to swap out SA souls to play.

It also includes the ban lists for each category on the last page. These are the CHANGES (not the full list) from the previous single ban list:

T1-Limited
- Ephesian Widow is no longer banned
- Imitate LS is BANNED

T2-Limited
- Ephesian Widow is no longer banned
- Imitate LS is BANNED
- Harvest Time is BANNED

T1-Teams Limited
- Ephesian Widow is no longer banned
- Burial (GoC) is BANNED
- High Places (GoC) is BANNED

T1-Unlimited
- Daniel (CoW) is the only BANNED card
- Ephesian Widow, Lost Souls (2-line and 3-line), Mourn and Weep, Samuel (RoA) and The Foretelling Angel (PC) are no longer banned. The original Endless Treasures (with the draw ability) is no longer banned, but it plays as the errata version.
