My wife and I have also moved to Nicholasville...right now we just don't have the money...I don't have the tables or chairs for it anymore. One possibility would be to see if I could rent out a room at Asbury Seminary for a tourney.
I didn't know you guys moved.  Welcome to Nich, the town where I grew up!  As for tables and chairs for locals or districts, I wouldn't worry about that.  It would be pretty easy to just hang out up in the Grille or Student Center at either the college or seminary.  That probably wouldn't cost anything.

As for a bigger tourney like KY State, you would probably need a bigger place that would be set up just for the tourney.  WFMC might be a possibility.  I am a member there and have a ton of connections.  I might be able to swing that for minimal money as well.  But I would need to know that you wanted to do it, and when so that I could go ahead and start working on booking it.

Speaking of WFMC, I know that you guys were looking for a church when you were in Lex.  Now that you're in Nich, I would highly recommend checking out WFMC.  In order of importance:  God is present.  It is full of people who love God and love each other.  The preaching is sound and scriptural.  There are limitless opportunities for you to get involved in ministry.  And the music is phenomenal.

Hey Mark,

Yeah Laine and I would like to host states.  I will see about reserving a room at asbury, maybe it would be free, idk.

I guess when do you think would be a good day for it?

You may not realize this (being new) but it is usually much preferable to have tournaments at the state and Regional levels be 2 days.  You will normally get a larger turnout at a higher level so you have to have more rounds.  Unless you run 3 categories at a time (which most people don't want to do) then you'll end up with a very longggg day.  You can normally run 2 categories at the same time on a Friday night and the other 4 on Saturday.

As far as dates go - the window for state tournaments is normally from the end of May to the beginning of July.  Late June usually works pretty well though I would try to make sure that Mark's 20 kids could make it.  Not just the biological ones of course. :)

I'm happy to hear that there might actually be a KY state!  If you're up to it, then I'd say try to host the Regional as well.  I know you're new to this but you would have experienced people joining you who could help.  I also don't think your region has anybody else trying for it so its you or nobody.

P.S. I'm a Dayton Ohio guy who would like to come down some time.

Plus, if it's near Asbury College's reunion weekend...then I would be down under the guise of "attending" the reunion.

Yeah I know It needs to be two days.

I'm thinking it will be one of the friday/saturdays in June.

As of the preferred weekend- I am open to suggestions. I'm going to be relying a lot on Mark because his group is the closest and I know he is willing to help.  (I only have 4 locals under my belt as hosts, but I have attended both district and states before.)

I am also hoping to host a district before then- maybe in April or May. It also depends on when other people are having tournaments.

It sounds like the 24th and 25th of April is a good time for a district. I will probably sent in the application sometime next week. Thanks for everyones input I look forward to the future KY and OH tournaments and meeting some of you Ohio folks.

Blessing,
Rob

P.S. I am particularly excited because I have women packs to use in my booster draft.

Also, any thoughts on what weekend states should be??

Hey all,

I am suppose to go on a retreat 24-26 of April now, so I need to switch my tournament date.  Would the 17-18 of April be better or May 1-2?  If the earlier day I need to send in tomorrow because it is 6 weeks away.

Thanks
Rob

Hey, Do yours on the 17/18 and I will do a district up here the following weekend (your original date).  Go ahead and send it in.  If you fax it and use a credit/check card then its alright if it is a few days late.

Actually I don't think either of those weekends works very well for us.  April 10th would work well, but it might be too late to apply for that.  If so, just do it whenever you can, and hopefully we can make something work :)

I'm still thinking about that Raven.  I'll post here if I decide :)

I think I'm going to push having a district back till May 15-16 because will be focusing on papers earlier in May.

I would love to come to tournaments that other people may be having though.

May 15-16th is after the students leave school for summer, and before the summer school students return.  So I won't have any students with me at that time.  However, I might be able to come with Andy and Drew Wills depending on their schedule, and depending on whether my wife will let me.

May 16th is our 11 year anniversary, so it depends on when we're celebrating :)

If you guys are still holding a District at Asbury, you can count me in!  I could play Redemption and visit my folks all in the same weekend!  Plus, I love any opportunity to stop in Mayberry, er, I mean Wilmore :)

Nope, Rob is talking about a district in Wilmore/Nicholasville.

East Central Regionals would probably be in early to mid-July if they are in KY.  And they would probably be here in Jackson.  But at this point, that is a big "if" :)

Yeah I will be holding a district.  Its sounds like it will be best if I host on the 1st and 2nd of May.  I will hopefully be sending in for that this week.

Sorry about changing my mind so many times over when to host.  I just started volunteering for the youth group at the Rock/la Roca UMC in lexington so some of my weekends will be taken up with youth events there. Hopefully I can get some of the kids there interested in playing Redemption and then that could be a possible location to host. Tips on how to introduce/ teach redemption are welcomed.
