I'd just like to say that KY State was a great tournament and thank Ben (czary) Huntsman for hosting it.

I enjoyed seeing many familiar faces from tournaments in the past (including some that I haven't seen in quite some time).  There were some really fun games, and a wide variety of different decks.  The big surprise was the addition of our reigning T1-2p champion Gabe (briangabe) Isbel and Jeremy (princeofthisgame) from as far away as Iowa.

I'll let Ben give the rundown of all the categories, but I will mention that Gabe lived up to his reputation.  That is not only because he won all 3 categories that he competed in, but also because he did it with humility and grace.

To give the Oakdale perspective on KY State, we unfortunately did not have as much success as usual (probably due to the high level of the competition).  Michael Saucedo placed 2nd in T2-mp, and I placed in few events, but the rest of our group finished out of the top 3 in all events.  This was disappointing since it was likely the final tournament for a couple of our students who are graduating or moving away.  However, we still had a fun time (which is more important than winning), and those of us who are remain look forward to trying again soon (OH state and hopefully East Central Regional).

Our players were also pleased with the cards that they were able to get out of packs from the Booster Draft.  There were also a lot of cards given to "the Storehouse".  It was nice to see my players giving back to the overall Redemption community that way.  It was also cool to see things come full circle as we move from a newbie playgroup that has benefited from the generosity of others (Ken Locklin, John Michaeliszn, Brian Reid, and Schaef) to now being a playgroup that is sharing with others who are just starting out.

Chief Captain Chimchar 4tw!

Unfortunately, despite drafting Job Overcomes AND Book of Jashar for my blue Hero, and Eleazar + Elazar's Sword x2, I couldn't pull off an upset in booster draft.

We had 20 people in attendance, also a day that made history, the first tournament in a few years that did not have Brian Reid or Jon Greeson. Most of my play group did not show up (only 4 out of 20+), even after I told them over and over about it, meaning that redemptions popularity has declined for my play group. As a result, I will not be hosting anymore tournaments.

I will thank Prof Underwood, who encouraged me to host the tournament in the first place. Gabe Isbell, was really an answer to prayer, as he brought a laptop, and coordinated the tournament tracker. Allen Collins and  Caleb lewis who helped me set up and/or put stuff away. The church that I used.  I also thank everyone who showed up, as that was my reward for the work of planning the tournament.

Overall, Gabe came in first the most; other winners included: Mark Underwood, Josiah Stoh, Caleb Lewis, Jon Pequinot, Ben Huntsman, Michael Saucedo, Rod Stuart, Hannah Huntsman, and Allen Collins.

Schaef said he would most likely come by himself, but he brought his baby son with him, who was most most assuredly the star of the tournament.

Final round I got to play my first ever game vs Schaef.  Unfortunately it was tainted by him drawing all his defense in the first 3-5 turns.  At that point we figured out that the deck he borrowed from Prof Underwood was "stacked".  There was some miscommunication and the deck didn't get shuffled.
I would just like to say that I did tell Schaef that the deck was sorted and needed to be shuffled.  Unfortunately, he thought that I was joking.  It just goes to show that even when communicating in person, sometimes things just don't come through clearly.  It's amazing that we can communicate at all on a board like this with only the written word :)

This also brings up another interesting observation from the tourney.  Everyone else seems to play better with my decks than I do.  Michael placed 2nd in T2-mp with my deck and Schaef placed 2nd in T2-2p with my deck.  The best I could do with those decks was a 3rd place in T2-2p.  I need to get people to borrow my decks more often and then teach me how to play with them :)

The three of us struggled to a 4-4-4 tie by the time I completely decked out.  Mark had the first chance to get to 5 but my Burial stopped him.  I was able to get a Lost Soul from Doug to end the game 5-4-4.
Gabe is being kind by saying that I was stopped by his Burial.  That is true, but leaves out my major blunder that I attacked the wrong person.  I think that is the reason why Gabe is so successful.  He just didn't make mistakes.  I know that I learned a lot at the tournament and hopefully I'll make less mistakes next time :)

Since it looks like we may have some players coming to East Central Regionals that we haven't had the pleasure of joining us for tournaments before, I think I will follow Travis' tradition of doing pre-registration.

Please PM me the following information if you plan on attending and I will put your name in a drawing for a prize of some sort :)

Name:
Phone number:
Days you plan to attend:
Categories you will be playing:

If you are bringing some other people who are not on the boards, I would appreciate it if you could put their information as well.

OK Mark, can I get a breakdown of the rule we will be using for teams at the tournament this weekend. I am looking for game play rules (what is shared, rules on having duplicate characters in a shared territory) and deck building rules (one SoG per deck or per team)...etc. Steven and I will be competing in the teams competition and will be getting together tomorrow to put our decks together so if you reply by them that would be awesome!!!

Glad to have you guys participating.  Most of the rules for the event can be found here.  There are a few options that haven't been finalized for Nats yet.  However at Regionals, we will be playing with shared fortresses, LoB, and LoR.  Everything else (turns, territory, artifact piles, etc.) will be separate.

Deck building rules will be the same as T1, but remember that only 1 of each dominant may be played per team per game.  So you can both have SoG in your decks, but only 1 of you can play it each game.
