2014 National Tournament

As some of you may have heard, Gabe Isbell and Kevin Shride were planning to host Nationals in Iowa this year.  Unfortunately, work and family duties came up that prevent them from hosting.  Gabe informed me a few weeks ago.  I reached out to other tournament hosts to see who else might be able to do it this year.  Several hosts volunteered including Chris Fachman in TN, Travis Brown in Ohio, and Terry Markoff in TX.  I am very grateful to them for being willing to take on such a big project on short notice.

My hope was to keep Nationals in the same region as Iowa.  Therefore, I am pleased to announce that Pat Wester and Chris Bany will be hosting Nationals this year.

Site:  Autumn Ridge Church, Rochester, MN
Dates: Aug 7-9

Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the word on Nats, Rob.    :)
Though I can't make Nats in MN, it does help with knowing about it so I can make alternate summer plans.

Great location, bad timing on the weekend. I have a wedding to attend that falls right smack in the middle of those days, so sadly I won't be able to make it to this Nats.

Best of luck to everyone who can attend, though, and kudos to Pat and Chris for being able and willing to host! :)

Weekend is significantly better than it usually is (the weekend before [and sometimes after] college begins).

Will there be top cut? Is that determined by the tournament host?  :maul:

Bit of a rough drive, and puts me on a path to have to see in-laws...we'll see ;)

At least we have word now.

Does this mean my bid for Nats in my basement was rejected?

Kevin and I each ran into the same thing several years ago, we already had a lot of plans nailed out too for our big. Iowa must be like the Bermuda triangle of Redemption, haha!

But in all seriousness, life happens, and when it does I'm glad we have a loving and understanding community of brothers and sisters in Christ! Prayers for Kevin, Gabe, and their families that they would be surrounded with encouragement and peace, and that God could even use us to do that through our Redemption community.

Rob, thanks for letting us know about Nationals. I know you have a lot on your plate with your family, let alone all the other ventures of Cactus that bring in a lot more revenue. Redemption has been a life-changing game for many of us, and we're excited to see it continue on!

I know it is being thrown together at the last minute, but considering the late notice and the need for information to plan these long road trips from all over the country, I wonder if we can get the following soon from the hosts:

  • An overall schedule of categories.
  • Information on costs (tournament, food, and otherwise), even if only a general idea.
  • A heads-up on the at-church sleeping arrangements, such as what nights it would be available and if space is limited (I won't be staying at the church, but some who come with me might).

And then put all of that in a stickied thread for visibility.
