I have been playing for a short time now, but it seems that people make jokes about this card "buckler" alot. What's up with that?

The main reason the 0/2 Buckler is joked about is because it's one of the worst enhancements in the game. While there are probably a handful of worse cards (though I cannot think of any off the top of my head, except for maybe Jacob's Ladder in T2), Buckler became a joke a while ago and has simply stuck.

Jacob's Ladder can be discarded by Uzzah. It's more useful.

Well, 0/2 Coat of Mail and 0/2 Helmet of Brass are in the same boat, but Buckler is unique because we joke about it. Also, if you hear somebody say "Black is weak", it's a joke.

Ironically enough, Black took a big hit with the new 2011 set. There are better defenses in all sizes.

It's the second best less than 10 card defense, IMO. The best would be in my sig, but Philly Outpost, Goliath, 12FG, and Garrison alone form a formidable team. Throw in a few odds and ends like negates, artifacts, or Uzzah, and you're gold.

Nope, in fact a good offense based on judges has several characters with no special abilities because they work really well with this artifact

Deborah, Gideon, and Samson are some really good judges with no special abilities but some really intense and powerful cards that can be played on them.

SHAMGAR IS THE BEST JUDGE OF ALL!

He's an even better judge than the majority of the Elders.

He can also play Buckler. FTW.
