Yeah, this year has sure felt like some insane pitching - Ubaldo's No-no, two perfects, Cains masterpiece, and a smattering of other dazzling performances, various 1-hitters etc.

This is ugly. I can't keep watching baseball with these umps. Worse than basketball.

Also, baseball is in trouble. I go to a game to see some balls hit into the stands, maybe a steal or two. I don't want to see two people play catch for two hours, especially if I have to pay $50. Players need to take steroids again.

I was watching. I'm no genius - But even I could tell that was an out. And even if it was that close, the benefit of the doubt should totally go towards the pitcher. Additionally - INSTANT REPLAY!!!! Even if MLB isn't using it. The crew chief should have said, hey man we messed up, lets go take a look and save some face.

I'll be very interested to see any statement from the MLB on this.

Ugh... Joyce is the worst umpire, by far. Missing the occasional close call is perfectly acceptable, but doing it on a regular basis isn't okay. Even for a little leauge team. Sometimes I (and I'm sure many others) wonder if he just has vendettas... against 13 different teams....

He should have been fired a long time ago.

I am SOOOOOOOOOO ticked off at this ump right now I can't even see straight! All I know is Bud Selig ought to go in and reverse the call. He has the power to do so. There are unwritten rules for umps, too, and this Joyce just broke one even more egregious than A-Fraud running over the mound. JOYCE NEEDS TO BE FIRED!!!

I slept on the issue at hand and feel much better today. here is what I posted on the Big League Stew blog at Yahoo.com reagrding whether Bud Selig should change the outcome to a perfect game:

Umps, including Joyce, should look at this game as one of those once-in-a-lifetime occurences and continue to stand 100% behind their judgement calls. They have a tough job. The fact that Joyce became so emotional and admitted his error of judgement reveals the enormity of the situation.

Finally, precedent has been set in the past by Fay Vincent and other commissioners who have gone and changed a highly visible stat such as this one, namely reversing no-hitters.

Baseball will survive this whether it's changed or not. But I can tell you this, I told my son and will tell my future grandchildren and Lord willing, great-grandchildren, that Armando Galarraga was the 3rd pitcher to throw a perfect game in 2010, and the 21st overall.

Reviving this thread just to say that the American League East is potent this year. The Toronto Blue Jays are in fourth place, but their 33-25 record puts them on par with the first place team in every other division in baseball. In fact, they would be in first place in at least one other division.

The Blue Jays were off to like a 30-15 start or something crazy last year. I just want to see if Baltimore is able to lose less than 120 games

I'm a die hard Yanks fan, but last month was embarrassing. They had a tough schedule, Red Sox, Tampa Bay, then the Twins, and could not come out with a win in any of the series. Although this month is different, yet they are playing Indians, Orioles, and teams like that.

THAT was impressive! This is turning out to be the year of the rookie. Mike Stanton of the Marlins was 3-5 in his debut. I might have to trade for all the fabulous rookies in fantasy: Strasburg, Stanton, Heyward, Castro, etc.

That is insane. Only Joel Zumaya is supposed to be able to throw 103.... Strasburg's velocity is probably still going up, too...

The most impressive part of Strasburg's grand opening was his poise under the intense scrutiny and excitement of the moment. He gives up a two-run home run, but instead of falling apart, he actually strikes out the side and mows them down the rest of the way.
