What offense theme's have no chance of winning NATS and Why?

Type 2 play seems to be most effective in utilizing themes. (I realize that there are those who will want to defend Type 1 play. Take your small decks and grow up!  ;D ) The thread "what trends" gave me this idea to ask this question.

I think sometimes we think a 'straight' theme (No combo themes) has no chance to be competitive or have a chance to win NATS and so we don't give it a shot. http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=25090.0 Lot's of times we brainstorm on something and as a community give ideas on effective offenses or defenses by focusing on them. I hope this thread through "pooh poohing" a theme either develops an understanding on how it can be effective or gives ideas to the 'PT' on what can make a theme effective. So hear goes my ideas on what theme's (using those theme cards alone) have no chance of winning at NATS (placing first second or third):

Musicians- Unless they are coupled with TGT women, they got no chance.
Genesis- As Jacob goes so goes the Genesis Strategy especially since Zebulan met Golgotha.
Judges- enough said
Samaritans- meet chorazin

I realize that many think the game is better with combo themes, not arguing that point  >:( . It seems to me that 'themes' is the direction that this game is going (I love the game, love building combo decks as well as theme decks). I am just interested in seeing others thoughts on the themes that need help to be effective in Type 2.

Eve helps Genesis a lot if you are playing with humans on defense.  She pulls them out very quickly which also shrinks your deck and gives you an idea of what's coming next.  I agree that a lot (if not all) Genesis's battle winners have common counters in Type 2 making the offense struggle a bit.

Eve: Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Blue • Ability: 7 / 3 • Class: None • Special Ability: Reveal the top X cards of deck. Add to hand all revealed humans. Eve ignores female Evil Characters. • Play As: Reveal the top X cards of deck. Place all revealed humans in hand. Ignore female Evil Characters.

Eve's ability I completely missed. I was thinking revealed heroes, but it does pull any human. Your right, The problem is the battle winners. I get tired of CTB being the only effective offense for Jacob, because you are beating the heck out of your own defense and if they have KOTW....dead!

Blue needs a genesis discard fortress card (Sound the trumpet just doesn't help enough). A genesis StT card would be terrific with Benjamin.

I would say Teal will be lacking at NATS this year due to all the protection running around. I would consider Teal a theme even though its not a civilization. If there is any Teal, I see it mixed with another brigade such as Red Warriors or OT Prophets or even Judges with Aaron, Moses, Eli's Sound Advice- of course that sounds more like a type 1 deck.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

I believe a NT Warrior-Class Female themed offense will have a hard time being competitive this year.

I can see that being true. Teal/prophets is a great combo but Teal really has only on CBN play and so many defenses are effective against those High numbered Heroes. However, the teal/green priests are helping Teal a lot.

Why purple year after year keeps getting reloaded (Royalty, Disciples), I have no idea. As long as ET/AoCP is out there Purple shouldn't be receiving any upgrades.

It is fairly difficult to build given that the only official card that works in the deck is Faithful Servant Promo (duh-nuh duh-nuh, dude looks like a lady), given that (s)he is multi-color and one per deck.

My life would be much simpler if I could convince the PtB to consider adding "Journey to Sweden" to the next set. So far, however, this has come up a cropper.  Fortunately, Wild Bill let's me play my mock up of J2S at all of his tourneys so I may be able to surprise some folk at Nats.   ;)

There is something that needs to come out of the closet up there in Minnesota. ::) Could a new brigade be on the horizon? Pink with a Gomorrah theme?

Characterless hasn't been doing well lately. The last time it won a game was in T1, and that was at MN state.

I'm going to assume this is 2P. Although my Judge/Samaritan deck hasn't won a multigame yet, it's been pretty competitive. I wouldn't doubt somebody else could pull it off.

A list of themes that have a good shot at winning nationals:
Disciples
TGT

Ones that have a long shot:
Red
Job
A-Bomb
Placers (I believe in you!)
Prophets

I hate closets. I'm just not sure if that makes me homophobic or claustrophobic.

Genesis- As Jacob goes so goes the Genesis Strategy especially since Zebulan met Golgotha.
Blue needs a genesis discard fortress card (Sound the trumpet just doesn't help enough). A genesis StT card would be terrific with Benjamin.

Blue doesn't really need all that.  You just need to pair it with a defense that can compliment your offense.  A defense that will tell them, "hey, you fellas are doing a really nice job, keep it up!" Then you'll do just fine. :D

Why purple year after year keeps getting reloaded (Royalty, Disciples), I have no idea. As long as ET/AoCP is out there Purple shouldn't be receiving any upgrades.

Asa's Good Reign?  Testing Solomon's Wisdom?  Drawn Out?  Which one of the three enhancements given to purple royalty in the past three years gives the feeling that theme is "loaded"?  If anything, purple royalty was average due to Royal Parade and Peace Treaty but both of those were pretty much made obsolete by all the anti-ignore in Disciples.  If anything that theme could use some major help. :miss:

As for purple Disciples... no comment. ::)

I think the only colors/themes that will rank are white/purple. I really don't see other colors being played heavily. I love gold, but it is just not competitive enough yet, blue took a hit, green is good but Naz shut it down considerably, red eh, and teal can be paired with something possibly. I really seeing Disciples splashed with something is going to dominate, the top deck is going to be the best splash with Disciples.
