General Tips and Advice Brainstorming

I've always felt that the main thing this particular board has lacked is a sticky with different pieces of advice from members of the board. This wouldn't really be for more experienced members; rather, this would be for people that are new to the game, or at least the forums, and could use some general advice to help get them started. Feel free to post any advice you might have for newer members, and I'll eventually create a list and post it either in this post or in a separate post. Such advice could include recommended cards that all new decks should have, advice on making decks with small budgets, good themes, that sort of thing.

What I would like to see is a post with links in it something like this:

Blue Brigade
  - Genesis offense (link)
  - A different approach (link)

Purple Brigade
  - OT Royalty (link)
  - Disciples (link)

Gold Brigade
  - Luke (link)
  - Judges (link)

Multi Brigade Offense
  - FBN banding (link)
  - Mixed Speed (ie. Gabe's 07 win)
  - Mixed CBN (ie. Tim's 06 win)
Crimson Brigade
  - Babylonians (link)
  - Heretics (link)

Evil Gold Brigade
  - Egyptians (link)
  - Herods (link)

Black Brigade
  - Phillistines (link)
  - Saducees (link)
  - Canannites (link)
etc.

As long as each link went to a decently well crafted deck, it would really be a great resource for people just starting to figure out the variety of decks available.

I think it'd be more useful if there was a "you want these cards," "These are nice cards to consider" and "these cards look good, but don't use them"  list.

Having an archive of well-crafted deck archetypes is definitely something I'd like to have. Additionally though, I'd like to see more general tips and advice.

This is a general call then, would any REPs or Elders be willing to write up articles on deck building and thought process?

Contact LordZardeck to see if he ever got that Academy idea off the ground.

I'll see if I have time tomorrow (read as: I'll see how much Skyrim I play tomorrow).

I've been trying to avoid it taking over my life.

This has been tried multiple times (Holder's Heroes, Redemption Wiki, Redemption Connect Academy), and thus far has never been successful as a group project.  In general I suggest people to take ideas and just run with them solo if they want them to get accomplished.

Thus SomeKittens cataloging all the created cards is something that I suspect will end up happening.  And Zardeck's programming the card creator program to begin with, is a great success story.  That's why I was proposing that you just link to threads that already exist about each of the deck archtypes.  It seems like something that one person could do by themselves, and would end up with a helpful tool for people.

You are of course welcome to make a bigger project out of it, and try to get community involvement to make it happen.  Just beware that previous efforts along those lines have failed.

You make a good point. For the moment, I'm going to stick to making a list of good deck archetypes. If anyone has seen a thread that would work as an archetype, please feel free to post it. This is what I have so far:

Genesis (Blue Brigade)
Genesis 2
Luke (Good Gold Brigade)
Samuel
Samuel 2

How's this :)

I like that a lot. Do you mind if I pick that apart and rewrite it, giving examples from the current meta?

As long as you keep the same idea (show pro/cons for all ways and then show a counter t the cons to help people out), I don't mind.  I'm sure you would knw more about it than I do anyways :P.

Hey, I just read that thread and noticed you were hating on my characterless deck. Right now it's 3-1 or something, that's a win percentage of 75%. Half of those games are against Ring Wraith, though. Characterless is very viable. At least it was when I made it like three years ago. It has a differential of +10 or something, too.

For those of you wondering, it went something like this:
Capture opponent's hero with Unholy Writ
Block my opponent with Madness or Doubt
Play Love of Money
Play Troops Discharged
Create a side battle using my opponent's evil characters. I control Ashpanez and they control Leviathan.
Convert the captured hero to a crimson EC.
Die in the side battle, win the main battle with like CM or something.
Flip up Holy Grail, convert my crimson EC to a hero.
Walk in for 3 free rescues + SOG/NJ
GG FLIP THE TABLE NO RE.

There are other ways to do it, too. Justin suggested Redemption.

Now, perhaps I stacked both my deck and my opponent's....

Sorry.  At the time,I thought you were just joking about a characterless deck.  Have you tried my counter to con suggestion? :p
