Complete Blank Slated Player

So...I just got into redemption, and I realized that I am completely lost on a "decent" or "playable" deck. What are some of your opinions on what I should be working towards (specific cards, strategies, yada yada). I have a few decent cards, or so I have been told, but other than that, I'm lost lol.

For starters, get a G&H starter deck. On this forum, check the type 1deck advice-read as many posts as you can.  Go to the deck building posts and read some of them. Check the official tournaments post and see if there are any listed for your state. Ask the folks whose names are in red or purple for advice. Glad to have you on the forums. Welcome to Redemption. God Bless Ya!

Well, people with red or purple names aren't necessarily the people to ask about playing better. As you join the community, you'll discover who's generally regarded as pretty good and you can seek out those players for help. We're usually very receptive to helping new players around here.

Also, welcome!
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I just ordered the G & H starter deck the other day, so I am glad that I got that right. Realizing how difficult it is to get some of the things you need when no one around you sells nothing but boosters and tins lol! After reviewing though some different lists, I think I realized that I am going to have to find some cards in the market place, is it pretty good on here?

Your place only has boosters and tins? Can we trade? I only have the G/H starter set and original boosters. :(  We're in similar boats, though - I just started playing (competitively, anyway) this year, so I don't have much in the way of cards either.

Ask questions (just like you're doing now!)  Simply put, ask as many questions as you can, read these forums often, and play A LOT.  That's my formula for success.

If you're interested in playing some redemption online (it's free), I believe that is the easiest and best way to learn the cards and learn what cards you wish to purchase and play with.

Here is how to get started:

Send me a personal message with any questions you may have.

Welcome to the boards!

p.s. There are usually a couple errors that you get during installation. Please post your error codes and we can direct you to the proper fixes.

Playing now in Alabama. We(rolltideroll and I) have been getting booster packs once a week and received our starters just yesterday, after a couple of hours of tweaking, we played and are already getting a hang of the little we know. As far as the online play goes, I have come to realize that unless there is a mac version, I am unable to play lol. Any solutions to that dilemma?

You should PM Red. He is working on building a playgroup in Alabama, but I don't know how close you and he are geographically. But if you aren't too far from where he is, you could see when his playgroup meets and get some good face-to-face games.

As for playing online, you either need Windows, or a Mac that can dual boot Windows to use Redemption Table Simulator. There has been work on a completely online version that can be played on any system with an internet connection (Redemption Live) but that is still in development.

Anyway, welcome to the boards, and let us know if you have any questions about the game.

For new players I would recommend picking one good brigade and one evil brigade and do the best you can with them.  If you don't have enough cards yet then 2 of each is ok.
I would aim for something that is relatively easy to acquire the cards, not too complex to play, and is decently strong so you can win some battles and games.

For offense:

purple disciples - most of the cards you need are in Disciples set with some in G/H starters

Garden Tomb, white NT females - a RoA tin, G/H starter, some disciples cards will get you a good start here

Blue genesis - 3? tins with a couple Disciples cards will be a good start

teal - easy to get good cards for it in priests packs with a couple tins to support

silver - can be fairly good and easy to play but several of the better cards are harder to acquire

red - not that hard to get but it tends to not do well

gold - I think it can be really good but the strategies are more complex.

green - I think it is the same.

I think defense is harder, defense:

black Philistines - 2? tins, TexP cards and promo Goliath

crimson/heretics - mostly in disciples probably combined with disciples sites

gray/Emperors - 3? tins will give you a good start

other opinions, anything else?

P.S.
It would help to know what cards you have to recommend what staples you should try to get.  The Dominants except for Glory of the Lord and Doubt are all worth getting.
Also, banding for offense and defense is easy to use and can be fairly good.

The only time Red's actually useful is when it's splashed into a good brigade.  This opinion only applies to this season.

Thanks for the advice, RTR and I have been using what we have and I am finding out two things. First, I enjoy my black Sadducees defense, little as I know of it, and then offensively I am using green/yellow, OT. Seems to be fun with the little we have!

I agree. The first deck I built was a red/white offense w/black D. Won a few rounds. Check out the REG. There's a link on here for it. Just type in the name of a card and it will show you the picture and stats.

Try and get a Gifts of the Magi to go with Hur - you get an extra seven cards! Also, try and get the number of characters vs enhancements a lot closer; not enough characters + too many enhancements = trouble, unless you have Storehouse (and then it's still not the best idea).

I definitely understand the use of getting rid of stuff, is there any enhancement that you suggest I drop? The goal would be to get down to a T1 or T2 deck, but as you can see, I added more LS to get the extra cards. Trying to get down to 50-56 if possible.

purple disciples - most of the cards you need are in Disciples set with some in G/H starters Dominant strategy this year
Garden Tomb, white NT females - a RoA tin, G/H starter, some disciples cards will get you a good start here Also very powerful but less so because of Golgotha and Naz
Blue genesis - 3? tins with a couple Disciples cards will be a good start Another good theme, a bunch of characters. (Sub-Theme : Zeb)
teal - easy to get good cards for it in priests packs with a couple tins to support also powerful if you can find and include the right cards (Sub-Themes: Solomon's Temple, Z-Temple, Tabernacle
silver - can be fairly good and easy to play but several of the better cards are harder to acquire Can be powerful, but is usually used as a additional brigade to another more powerful ones (e.g. Silver/ Green, Silver/ blue, etc.)
red - not that hard to get but it tends to not do well Nuff Said
gold - I think it can be really good but the strategies are more complex. Depending on your experience, this can be powerful if used correctedly (Sub-Themes : Judges, Luke Heroes(often paired with White TGT)
green - I think it is the same. Very much like gold in the way that it works if you know how to make it work (Sub-Themes: OT Prophets, NT prophets
I think defense is harder, defense:
black Philistines - 2? tins, TexP cards and promo Goliath  Powerful and easy to use
crimson/heretics - mostly in disciples probably combined with disciples sites I've Never Used this
gray/Emperors - 3? tins will give you a good start Not used that much but not that bad
The Dominants except for Glory of the Lord and Doubt are all worth getting. Idk some would say FA and GOYS are shots in the drak
Also, banding for offense and defense is easy to use and can be fairly good. Banding raises abilities (*/*)..... Not Good

It would help if you further seperate the cards in the list into brigades and give the full deck list.

1.  The evil characters and enhancements don't match well.  You don't have any black brigade enhancements (do you have the ones from the starter?).  You only have 4 crimson characters for what you do have listed.  Flying Flames works with a demon, right?  Only having 1 character to match with is usually not good.  Love of Money is not a good back up.  You should really try to aim for crimson or black.  I would recommend getting more black: Sadducees and a few of Devourer, Joseph in Prison, High Priests Plot, Wrath of Satan, Denying Blame, the ones from Disciples.  You can also splash Red Dragon, Sapphira, and even Arioch.

2. take out Tables of the Law.  Most well built decks I've seen have enough cards that you can lay down (characters, sites, fortresses, artifacts, weapon class) or play outside of battle (Doms, set-aside and territory class enhancements) that you rarely have problems with too many cards in hand.

3. take out:  Love of Money, Sanctifying Faith, Water from a Rock, Plague of Lice, Confused Languages, Edge of the Sword, Pillar of Cloud, Pillar of Fire to start

4. you can take out several more if you have something better to replace with like: Two Bears, Provisions, Baptism, Micah, Simeon, Anna, Furnace of God's Wrath, Ambush the City, Cov of Moses, Ehud, multi color sites, Obadiah's Caves, Chariots of Fire, Hidden Treasures, Unholy Writ, etc.

5. I count 51 cards in your list + 5 lost souls.  You said you added souls?  No doms listed.
