Speed!!!

I'm sorry to Chronic Apathy specifically about bringing this up because I'm so OCD about this because we had already talked about this on a separate thread. I feel like the term speed deck is getting thrown around to vaguely. I want to hear the definitions of others. This is mine.

Speed Deck: A deck solely based on the purpose of drawing to get out a combo of some sort. Thaddeus abuse, Mahari Claudia ET abuse, Dom Rush, and many others.

Most people say speed when they have a deck that incorporates decent drawing. Like I said I'm OCD about this and that is why when I speed on a deck that has SB, Damsel, Vitellius, with like a Green offense and someone calls it speed it makes me go crazy. Their I got it out.......Thoughts

When I use the term "Speed deck" (for Type 1), it is rather broad.  This is GENERALLY what I mean, although a "speed deck" may not have all of these things.

1) 50-56 cards
2) A lot of lost soul generation, like TAS, Hopper LS, Harvest Time, Revealer LS, Malchus, etc.
3) Smallish or even non-existant defenses (although evil dominants are almost always included), and big offensive focus.
4) Several cards that allow for the drawing of more cards.
5) Several cards that either allow for the same card to be recurred continuously, and/or cards that allow a deck or discard pile to be searched/viewed.
6) Powerful combos that require very few cards to pull off, like Phin + Zeal, Claudia + Simeon + Jacob + COTH
7) A lot of dominants - usually 9 or 10.

Don't know if this helps or not.

Steffer's list is basically accurate, except that a speed deck will always be exactly 50 cards (51 in some instances of Haman's Plot), less often use Captain bands and more often use the CBN battle-winners (especially Joseph, who has 3), and 10-11 doms, not 9-10.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

This is a very reasonable definition but I still think the speed aspect of it must have a purpose or else the deck has mosst likely a different theme. Such as disciples was to get out thad with his diaciples.

The point is to get a quick ls with a cbn combo, like Phin + Zeal, get a second with AOTL, and a third with a ctb combo, or some other cbn combo, like King Amaziah + Ahimalek. The rest should be solely to get those cards out.
As a national champion, I support ReyZen deck pouches.

Yes, I forgot the part about CBN, which is a big part in those combos usually.  I only said up to 56 cards because I have seen otherwise fast decks put in some sites just on the offchance they can stall their opponent.  But usually they are 50-51 cards.

I would call any deck that is built around moving quickly "speed". I don't think it necessarily has to be moving towards a specific goal or combo, nor do I think that the moving quickly has to be built around drawing. Genesis is a great example of this. Genesis is a theme that's largely built around searching, especially if one is using Creation of the World and gets it off early enough. Eve is another great searcher, and Pillar is another great search card. The result is that, if you're using Genesis' search abilities a lot, you'll be emptying your deck as quickly as a modest speed (read:drawing) deck would. Not Sam or Disciples, but other decks that are more tuned towards drawing than say, Prophets. When you add Genyptians into the mix, they add a layer of "traditional" speed.

However, I do definitely see the side of people who disagree with me, saying that speed is specifically for drawing out to reach a specific combo or something similar.

That just means you get to speed twice. If anything, that makes speed twice as good!
