Sealed deck Opinion question

Ok i want to get everyone's opinion on this for strategy sake and for new players tho know the thinking behind the choices. I have noticed that 90% of the people in sealed get kings packs to add to the deck. If you knew which deck you were getting (I or J) would that change your choice of packs? Why or why not?

Redoubter has a great article on Land of Redemption (and subsequent deck discussion here on the boards) detailing his thought process and decision to go with 3 Priests packs at Nats this year.

Agreed and I enjoyed it but I want to hear from more than 1 person. I work for a research firm and I like seeing more than 1 thought process on the topic.

Oh gotcha. I personally choose an assortment to have the most options, though it's been awhile since I've done Sealed.

My choices are usually something like Kings, Patriarchs, and something else. I've picked a second Kings, a Priest, sometimes an Angel Wars as the third pack.

What are the primary cards you would hope to pull from those sets and if you knew that you were getting the I deck would you change your choices? How about the J deck?

If I knew I was getting the deck with the orange defense I would for sure choose Priests for at least one pack to have a chance to augment the defense. For Kings you hope to get some of the larger characters (especially FBTN), and the big angels are always useful as well. I don't really remember why I used to pick Patriarchs so I probably will change that one in the future.

Was there a reason you chose those packs? what cards were you hoping for? would you have chose differently if you knew which deck you were getting (I or J)? Why?

I was hoping for the deck with the demons, (J I think) because there are some boss demon cards in priests. As to whether I would choose differently I'd say no. For one thing there are cards from priests that would be good to have in my collection, but besides that there are good cards for both decks. Since there are some high value cards (some good for sealed others not so much) you may find it easier to trade. (At OH states there was no trading with opponents for reasons Travis has enumerated elsewhere). As for priests there are just useful cards. For the angel deck there are cards like Army of the lord for mass banding along with a few angels like angel at Jerusalem and angel in the path. Wickedness abounds is also good for speed. (A common brown evil enhancement that allows you to draw four if your opponent has more cards and play the next enhancement). There is protection of angels. Two huge cards for defense are King of Tyrus and Prince of this world which will be great in any sealed deck by their abilities alone. It also has huge orange enhancements like deafening spirit (a common), pride before calamity, pride in position, and pride in the past. All are amazing late game at clearing out your opponents territory. There are quite a few sites in preists that can be used for site lock. I can think of at least five that are in the series, three of which are teal and the other two being blue and green. If you look through priests there are a lot of cards that could be really good with the options given.

Side note: It can also be a bust at OH states I didn't get as many of the good cards I was hoping for, I did get a few cards that helped me win battle I might not otherwise have won, but nothing that would have given me a huge advantage like King of Tyrus. It might also be a bust if you get the wrong deck. At OH district (we chose the packs before receiving decks) I got the angel deck after choosing three priests. I got Prince of this world, pride before calamity and pride in position. In the deck I had they were good but not as powerful as they would have been otherwise. I added Prince and calamity, but didn't make it to the top because of a defeat by soul abundance on my part and soul drought on my opponent's (I think it was my brother). I lost another to Travis because while I got prince which should have shut down his offence since he'd played angel of the lord but he'd drafted a banding card and I wasn't able to stop him.

Ok sorry about all the info I've thrown at you but I hope it helps.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your strength.

I suspect patriarch gets drafted for a chance at DoN (for their collection/trading), Haman's plot, one of the Covenants, or some other useful card(s).
Just one more thing...

Taking into account my most recent sealed experiences I would now choose Patriarchs and Kings (some combination of them) for several of the great enhancements in them along with Covenant with Adam in Patriarchs and Fallen Warrior in Kings. If you can get at least a couple battle winners for Fallen Warrior or get lucky and get the deck with Black defense, you are golden. At the Ohio State event I took three Priests for similar reasons listed above. I was extremely disappointed and lost horribly most of the day.

Despite my choice of 3 Priests packs, as I stated in my write-up (linked by Browa), Kings is probably what I would consider to be the most consistent pack.  Battle-winners and useful characters in abundance (excluding Orange) along with some very powerful options to add to your decks, you'll probably never pull a "dead" pack in Sealed.  Priests can definitely be "dead" if you don't get your brigades, you don't get J deck, and you don't get enough Teal to be able to add it to your decks.  It is a huge gamble, IMO, but the rewards can definitely win you tournaments.

My preference is Patriarchs and Kings, and one wild card that would most likely be either Priests or another Kings (if I were to be able to know what deck I had, that wild card would likely be Angel Wars for I deck, Priests for J Deck). I believe Justin drafted Pats, Kings and Priests in 2013, and his Widow walked in for several rescues vs the big Phillies, so I'm sure his advice would always be to go with at least 1 Pats...plus the possibility of getting a Hamans Plot might end up winning you a tournament if you are able to save it for the critical game.

IMO the Kings packs have the highest probability of useful cards, which is why you often see them taken. The other packs could have great picks, but they are low probability.  Kings packs offer high numbered characters that can win by themselves,  so you do not need to match brigade colors. They also offer the 1/1 kings that will give you initiative to use the starter deck battle winners. These cards are common and uncommon,  so you will certainly get useful cards with two or three Kings packs.

At Nats I opened 1 each of Kings, Patriarchs, and Priests. I don't remember thinking about it at the time but I guess I figured that if what I got in the packs was going to be random anyway I'd rather have a variety of different options instead of putting all my eggs in one basket hoping to get a specific card from a specific set.

As it turned out, I got the J deck and the following cards to use in my deck from my packs.

Israelite Archer
Shammah
Ruth meets Boaz  8)
Battle Prayer
*Bow and Arrow
Fellowship
*Love at First Sight
Balaam's Disobedience
Evil Armor

*I traded for Bow and Arrow and Love at First Sight from my opponent.

If I didn't get the Balaam's Disobedience, the Patriarchs pack wouldn't have been worth it. Next time I play sealed I'll probably go with 2 of either Kings or Priests and one of the other.

Kings packs also have more weapons and warrior class characters, which had a better representation in the I/J Starters.
