NHL turning in to the NBA....

Scumbag Brendan Shannahan Logic

3 game suspension

$2.5k fine

To fill in a little, Shea Weber is a superstar where as Hagelin is a 4th liner. The only reason possible Weber didn't get a suspension for that incident is that he is his teams star player and it's the playoffs. The NHL Player safety committee chairman Brendan Shannahan who is in charge of suspensions is turning the NHL in to the NBA when it comes to punishing players and it's a joke.

NHL needs to knock off trying to turn into the stinking NBA. i mean this is Hockey, not basketball, Hockey is suppose to be a rough game. not a soft game like golf, basketball, and volleyball. nobody back in the day complained about the hard hitting style of hockey that makes hockey....well hockey. i mean what's next? is the NFL gonna turn into basketball too with the example the studpid ruling is for hockey on the hard hitting? i hope not cause the hard hitting is apart of the game. i mean put it this way, does the MLB suspend Ken Griffey JR for hitting too many homeruns? does the NBS suspend Michael Jordan for too many slam dunks? does Tennis suspend Roger Federer for winning too many US opens? does the officials in golf suspend Tiger woods for teeing a gpher right into bill murray? (lil caddyshack joke) certainly not cause they are all apart of the game. minus the steroid use, though. but my point is, if you don't like hard hitting styles that are within a sport which include hockey, football, boxing, MMA, and Pro wrestling (idc if it's real or fake, wrestling is wrestling), then give it to someone else and leave the hard hitting in sports, for the fans.

Hitting is one thing, hitting is just fine except when it is a dirty a hit such as the Hagelin hit. What Weber did is NOT hitting it is NOT part of hockey and it DOES NOT BELONG in the game of hockey. Hagelin's hit, although dirty, was still a part of GAME ACTION. Weber has no such room to argue, there is nothing about what he did that was not a clear intent to injure another player and to make matters worse the game was over when it occurred. The only other place I have ever seen something like that is in the WWE. He should have been suspended for the rest of the series with no pay. There is no parrallel between your MLB NBA and golf examples. What Weber did is NOT in anyway part of the game of hockey, it belongs in MMA, WWE, and street fighting. Nothing else.

that's what I'm talking about yes. He sucker punched Zetterberg in the back of the head and when that didn't deter him he grabbed his head and slammed it in to the glass, after the final buzzer had gone on the game no less. As for hitting and general there is a difference between a hard clean hit and a dirty hit. Clean hits can injure but usually don't. Dirty hits are usually made with the intent to injure an opposing player and are not acceptable. Even when it's an accidental dirty hit it's still dirty and the player needs to be punished for it.

As a Penguins fan, I was looking forward to a thread about the thug fest I got to watch yesterday. I'm disappointed.

I'm going to be in the minority, but I like Weber's way more than Hagelin's. Hagelin's is much dirtier imo.

I agree with lp. I was really surprised that Weber was not suspended. As much as I liked Shanny as a player, I disagree with a lot of his decisions.

Alfie got hurt and Zetty didn't. That's the main difference, and that's been documented to play a role in the decision making process, so that's why Weber is fine.

Hagelin's hit wasn't even that dirty imo.

Yeah, there's nothing dirty about shoving your elbow into someone's grill into the boards.

I don't think Weber should get a pass for Zetterberg not being injured, it doesn't matter there was clear INTENT to injure. Zetterberg being tough doesn't make what Weber did any less egregious. The current playoff environment is a direct result of Weber not being suspended. It set a precedent that has gotten out of control. As a hockey fan I have no problem with hard hits and fighting and in fact feel bad for Crosby because people say he's a wimp for running away from confrontation, but he's also a wimp for fighting? I don't get it people love to hate the kid with no valid reason.

Doesn't matter, the league disciplines based on injury. Always has.
