Type 1 2 player, 3 rounds:

Both players have won 2 games and played each other in the 3rd round ending in a 3-3 timed tie. Who wins the event?

It goes to LS differential,
if that's the same then they tie for first and second and they split the prizes and points

Are you sure about that? If play A beat player B and player B beat player C, all have the same amount of points, doesn't it go A > B > C?

As far as I know, it goes to differential whenever there is a 3 way tie for points. If 2 of the players have the same (better) differential, then it goes head to head. If they didn't play head to head, then you probably needed to have one more round in your tournament, but it would be a tie.  :P

In your example, C never got a chance to play A, so it would be unfair to determine the placings based on head to head match-ups when A and C have equal points.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it ruled differently (as in ruled the way I described), but I can't remember where. It may have been at Iowa State last year but I'm not sure.

I agree that it would be unfair, but that's the very reason I got 4th instead of 2nd at Nationals in T1-2P in Boston, so that's the way it was being handled last season.

The elders talked about changing it as Justin describes and I believe everyone (including Rob) agreed that would be better but I don't know if he ever updated the tournament documentation or if the change was ever officially announced.

*EDIT* - the tournament guide still says this:

Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated during any step, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format).

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

Same reason I got 30th instead of 29th (out of 30 people) at Connecticut States T1-2P.   :'(   I wish I had your pain.   ;)
