Who chooses the lost soul to rerscue?

Okay, I was thinking the heroes chose the lost soul to rescue, but I saw in a few videos on LoR it seemed the blocker picked the lost soul?

In T1 the defending player chooses which lost soul to give the opponent after a successful rescue attempt while in T2 the rescuing player chooses the lost soul he is trying to rescue before when the hero enters battle and if that lost soul is removed they cannot choose another one.

Also when you play the Son of God you get to choose the lost soul that you rescue. They're optional rules as well in type 1 if the two players agree on Rescuers choice before the game starts.

Okay, say the defending player has 3 lost souls.  One of which is placed in a site.  Of the three lost souls, if the defender has to choose can they choose the site protected Lost soul, and block the offense from getting the other two lost souls that are not in sites?

The defender chooses the soul after the battle has resolved and the attacker has won. They can then choose from any soul the winning attacker had access to.

right, the hero has to have "site access" meaning they have site access written into their ability or they are a matching brigade of the site or have a site in battle matching the brigade of the site you have a soul in for them to rescue it
