When interrupt enhancements can be played

When can interrupt enhancements be played?  What defines you as having initiative for an interrupt enhancement?

For instance, if your opponent plays Confusion, can you interrupt it?  I know Confusion technically isn't giving you a disadvantage in the battle, but say Hermogenes plays confusion against Abishai.  Can Abishai play holy ground, even though he technically wouldn't have initiative after Confusion was played?  I mean, how do these interrupts work?

And what if the enhancement doesn't give you initiative, but you know it will provide an effect that will lead your opponent to victory?  Say, for instance, your opponent plays "Search" to get out their Angel of the Lord.  Technically, you won't have initiative, since the opponent isn't NECESSARILY getting out Angel of the Lord (for all you know, it could already be in their hand).  The opponent might be getting out Patience or something.  Can you still play an interrupt enhancement to prevent Search's effect?  I mean, come on!  How do interrupt enhancements work?

Or say an opponent plays Might of Angels against your Prince of Tyrus.  It won't affect him and thus won't affect the battle outcome, but it will destroy your Red Dragon and Prince of this World (both of whom are out of battle).  You don't want to see that happen.  Can you play an interrupt?

Or say an opponent using Lot's Wife uses net to capture Joab, but you still have Abishai and Asahel, and thus technically do not have initiative.  I know I don't want MY Joab getting captured.  Can I play an interrupt?

And what if your opponent plays Golden Censor?  It doesn't affect the battle outcome, but I'd sure like to be able to stop it.  Can I play an interrupt?

When can interrupts be played?

Wondering,

You only have initiative to play an interrupt if the last card played directly causes you to be losing the battle or creates a stalemate/mutual destruction.

In your Search and Golden Censer examples, you could interrupt/negate them if they gave you initiative with their numbers.  In all of the others, you don't have the initiative to negate.

Thanks for the information.  Good to know.

Man ...that can really stink...

So here's a fun little situation: Your opponent has a Holy Ground in their hand.  They're stocked.  They send out Abishai and band to Joab.  You send out a puny Fallen Warrior.

Your puny Fallen Warrior uses Net to capture Abishai.  This isn't giving the opponent initiative directly, because they are still winning the battle.  But, AFTER Abishai is captured, not as a DIRECT result of the enhancement but rather as a direct result of Fallen Warrior's ability, Abishai is considered to be successfully blocked, and thus Fallen Warrior gains Abishai's cumulative abilities.  Fallen Warrior is now winning.  Joab is doomed.

The opponent, then, could not have played Holy Ground to negate this, since it was not Net, but Fallen Warrior's ability, that is causing Joab to lose?

Just a question.  Yes, this actually comes up, and it comes up quite often.

Blessings,

That doesn't work.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

To clarify, "successfully blocks" is not determined until after the battle, so Fallen Warrior does not gain abilities during the battle. Also, since Joab is losing by numbers, that player does have initiative and can play a negate, which could negate Net (since it was the last enhancement played).

Fantastic!  Gotcha.  Now, if my other thread's question could be answered...
