Side Battle Question

I am a little confused about something that happened in a multiplayer game yesterday, so hopefully someone can explain it to me using small words and modern analogies.  ;D

I RA Ehud and RR blocks with one of his 300 Egyptians. At some point, I gain initiative and play Sword Against Sword to bring in Kirk's unstoppable Rabshakeh holding 2k horses combo.

My question is this:

1. Sword against Sword is a side battle card that I played. Doesn't that mean that I become the "holder" of Kirk's cards?
2. If so, do I get to draw cards and play next from 2k horses?

Kirk drew the cards and played next on his own character even though he was not in the battle. Is this the way it is supposed to be played? Is this a multiplayer thing that I have never come across before? Kirk and RR seemed to go on as if it was normal, so I assumed that I was in the wrong for thinking that I should get to draw and play next.

I just wanted an explanation that would make sense to someone like me that reads too much into stuff. We didn't have time during the game to discuss it (stupid early mall closing hours).  :-\

Quote from: REG
Holder
When the special ability of a card refers to the Holder, it means the player that activated the card. If your opponent controls one of your characters, he becomes the holder of that character for the remainder of the battle.

Now, to me, that quote would indicate that I was right.

Sword against Sword
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Yellow • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Select two Evil Characters to fight each other. Cannot be negated if used by a Hero with a Judges reference. • Identifiers: OT, Depicts a Weapon • Verse: Judges 7:22

Quote from: REG
Instant Abilities > Fight Each Other

How to Use
If two heroes (or two evil characters) are forced to fight each other, this is called a side battle. In a side battle, each player involved in the original battle controls the characters on one side of the side battle.  The characters which must fight are selected by the player of the side battle ability and placed into the side battle in any order.  If only one selected character was already in battle, then its current controller retains control of that character in the side battle.  If both of the selected characters are being controlled by the same player in the original battle, the player of the side battle ability chooses which one he will control in the side battle.  The player that controls a character controls any banding special abilities (if applicable). However, characters in a side battle cannot band to characters already in the Field of Battle. If one or more characters already in the field of battle are selected to fight in a side battle, their special abilities do not reactivate.

I posted so that no one would be confused by the quote of the definition of "holder" as it pertains to the example.  Also, posting of special abilities helps.

So in summary, after playing SaS you may choose any two EC in play.  You would control one and RR would control one.  In your example, I am making an educated guess that you were causing Rab/2k to fight the egyptian?  If so, RR will control the egyptian since he already had control and you would control Rab/2k.  You would get to draw two cards and play next.  The egyptians SA would not activate again.

Final ANB errata: Return player to game.

Yea you're right YMT, you would have been able to control the Rabshakeh.  I'm sorry about that... we were all rushing to beat closing time.  However, it was a Arioch, a Babylonian that RR used, not an Egyptian.  ;)

And I just realized that I had Wall of Protection in my territory at that point anyways, so you would not have been allowed to even pull Rabshakeh into battle.  I just wasn't paying enough attention apparently (or the rest of us for that matter...  :-\)

Obviously none us were paying attention (Pharaoh Arioch, perhaps?). Especially with the mall security lady staring us down, moving around the table to get into all of our individual lines of sight, just to make sure that we saw her glare.  :o

It would not have made a difference anyway because you still could have captured my Ehud with Unholy Writ. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something about the side battle rules.

Right, I meant to mention that fact as well.  It was fun to taunt you all with an extra two souls that none of y'all could rescue due to my defensive forces...  8)
