Self vs Identifiers

Self (P)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: * / * • Class: None • Special Ability: Abilities (*/*) match the abilities of one of opponent’s Heroes in play. If that Hero leaves the field of play, abilities become 0/0. • Errata: (Treat the special ability as an identifier) • Identifiers: Generic NT Human, Gender, testament, and other identifiers match selected Hero.

So self copies all identifiers. An implied identifier of every character (or at least every NT hero) is Christian/believer/etc. Self copies all identifiers. Does this make Self a Heretic when he copies a Christian (similiar to copying an angel=demon).

I would rule no. Especially when people like Judas, Ananias, and Sapphira are not considered heretics. Also, since Christian/Believer etc. are not technically identifiers in the game, then I don't think Self would copy them.

If Self copies a converted Magician (or Heretic, or any other evil identifiers that don't convert) does Self gain the Magician identifier?

I would say yes. Just as a reconverted Magician (or converted The Magi) would be considered Magicians.

I'm pretty sure it's been ruled that if they were converted to an Evil Character, then they would be considered magicians, since they are widely recognized as having been astrologers.

I hadn't heard that, sorry.

Reconverted magicians? I thought Magicians lost the identifier when converted. Self copies an identifier that is not there? Are we back to talking about memorizing imaginary roots?  :o

I think of identifiers that can only be on Heroes (angel is the only one I know of) and only on EC's (heretic, magician, demon) kind of like special abilities. Angels and demons are somewhat different, since only Angels can be converted to demons, and not vice versa. But when it comes to magicians/heretics, I see those identifiers as similar to sa's that don't convert. For example, a converted Archers of Kedar still has a special ability (i.e. Household Idols would ignore him) even though the ability can't do anything. Similarly, a converted Moses still has a special ability even though it also doesn't work. However, when Moses or Archers of Kedar is reconverted, their abilities are reinstated. I would assume the same is true of identifier, though I don't believe the REG directly addresses that.

Quote from: REG>Convert>Default Conditions
If a Hero is converted to an Evil Character, it’s special ability does not work.  If that Evil Character is later converted back to a Hero, it’s special ability works again.

That's not really what I meant. Self copies the identifier of a hero. A converted magician (who is now a hero) does not have the magician identifier anymore, so how can Self copy it?

My argument was that they do have the identifier, it just doesn't affect the game, similar to a SA that doesn't convert. However, I'm not 100% sure.

Oh, I see what you're saying. I'm not sure I agree yet, but at least I understand.  ;D
