My Questions
« on: July 14, 2015, 12:03:57 AM »

Hey everyone. I have more questions relating to rules, and I have designed to make a new topic for it because my old one was long and I didn't want to bump it, either.

For my first question, I am going to be attending a District Tournament late this year, and I have never been to one before.
I am investing in Card Sleeves, and I am interested in the "Ultra Pro Pro-Matte Protector Sleeves" as I have heard good things about them. All the ones I can find though, are sized for Magic the Gathering. Will they still fit a Redemption Card? They are 66 x 91 mm. Does anyone know the dimensions of a Redemption Card, and if these sized Sleeves are the ones I'm looking for? Thanks so much!

MtG-sized Ultra Pro Pro-Matte sleeves work perfectly with all printings of Redemption, and are my cheaper sleeve of choice as well (never had one rip, they shuffle very well, and are less transparent on the back).  Dimensions on Redemption cards change based on the set, so it's hard to say, but anything MtG-sized work perfect.

Great, thank you! What color would you suggest? I've heard some colors are still too transparent on the back and could potentially be illegal for Tournament play.

I've never seen any sleeves refused by the host, but it is a concern, sure.  I've never had a problem with the Pro-Matte product, just given how it is built it avoids that issue pretty easily.

I would recommend getting a couple of colors, one for your main deck, maybe another for a second deck if you run it, but another color for any closed categories (like Sealed or Booster).  While they don't generally rip, always get 1 pack more than you think you'll need.  Sleeves get lost or can become overused, so having a replacement will save you a lot of headaches.

Last bit, remember that there will be others using these sleeves, so having a couple of color options could save you some trouble when it comes time to play and you see that a few people are using 'your' sleeves.  As far as which ones to get, your favorite colors of course :)  Let your deck reflect you, and then if you really want to get crazy with your sleeves someday, some companies like Fantasy Flight Games have 'art' sleeves (Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and any number of other things).  That could be used to make your decks more personal, but they are a bit more expensive.

Thanks for your help Redoubter.

I have another question, that has left a big gap in my Redemption games.

What is Converting? I have no idea what it is, but it seems pretty important.

Conversion is changing either an evil character into a hero, or a hero into and evil character, or changing the brigade of a character though the first is the most common.

If you want a more info, check "convert" in the REG: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads/REG_PDF_v1.0.2.pdf

I believe it is also covered in the 10th anniversary rulebook.

Convert is used to change something on a card to something else, Evil Character to Hero is the most common, followed by Hero to Evil Character, or changing brigade. On rare occasions it can even card types, like Curse to Evil character (see Madness), but the majority of times it just changes alignment and brigade.

Also, demons and angels inherently cannot be converted unless the card specifically states that it can target a demon or angel, like Angelic Rebellion.

Okay it makes more sense now. Thanks!

I've got 3 more questions.

#1. When can Dominants be played?

#2. When can characters band? Do both banding characters enter battle at once, or do you play the additional character when you have iniative? And can more than 2 characters band in at once? Take Men of Judah, Army of Simeonites, and Caleb for example.

#3. Can Artifacts be activated and take effect on the same turn as the are drawn?

1. Anytime, except during the resolution of another card's special ability.

2. Banding takes place instantly, but if a card has multiple special abilities banding generally happens after the other abilities. You may only band to 1 qualifying character per band ability unless it specifies additional ones, but if the character you band in also has a band ability you can end up with a banding chain. There is no limit on the number of characters you can have in battle via band abilities.

3. Yup.

1. Also cannot be used during Battle Resolution (described in the rulebook).

2: banding simply adds a character to battle. And when a character is added to battle, it's special ability ability activates, so if it has a band ability, it can add another character.

Yes, I know I shouldn't bump this, but I am tired of spamming new topics for questions ever time I have one.

Okay so I've stumbled upon something confusing.
I found that the Redemption Wiki gives cards extra identifiers?
http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Arianna_(AW) for example. The real Arianna card, says nothing about being unique. But on the wiki page of the card, it says she is Unique! This is the same for many cards! The wiki gives them extra identifiers that are not printed on the card!

Or Gideon (J) for example. On the real card, he has no identifier that says he "Fought in an Earthly Battle". It only says he is a "Judge".
But it says he Fought an Earthly Battle on the Wiki. Here: http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Gideon_(J)

Do I just use the Identifiers printed on the cards? Or the extra ones the wiki shows as well?

Thanks guys!

Both of those identifiers are implied by the cards themselves - Arianna because it's a name, and Gideon because he's Warrior-Class (which I believe implies fought in an early battle for human characters).

But yes, you should use the identifiers listed on the wiki - or double check here or in the REG if it seems weird.  A lot of the older cards have no identifiers printed on them, since that didn't start until Kings.

I am aware about the unique-rule, but I did not know about the warrior class thing. I cannot use the wiki for every card in mid-game, so during games I will have to use common sense and the printed identifiers. Thanks so much!

Honestly the best way to approach it :)  There are few cards you might still question after applying general common-sense questions and answers.

However, just noting that WC does not automatically mean "fought in an earthly battle."  Levi and Simeon were both in the same 'fight' and took up arms (the former is WC), but it wasn't an actual battle.  People killing each other does not always mean 'battle' and in this is one such case.  Generally a good way to look for it, though.

Also know that some of these more obscure listings come from a very tiny percentage of the cards referencing them; it shouldn't be a terribly important issue in most games.

Thanks for clarifying that!

By the way, what is a Fortress-Site?

It's a fortress. When they were first released, they were a type of site, hence fortress site. But since then the "site" part has been dropped.

To expound on this, the original three fortresses (Goshen, Kingdoms of this World,  and Potter's Field) were printed with a multicolor site icon. Shortly afterward, they were reprinted with the all-new fortress icon, and then all subsequent fortresses were printed with the new icon.

Is this another printing error I should disregard? When does this "Site Phase" occur? http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Storehouse_(Pa)

Another question! This one worries me a bit.
As alot of you know, I will be attending a Redemption Tournament in September.
I will be bringing a Type I Deck with me, but I noticed that under the "Types Of Tournaments" section on the website, it says this about Type I:

"A couple major rules is one card with special abilities per 50 cards"

Does that mean only ONE card with an ability? That's crazy! Could someone shed some light on this? Thanks.

Another Question! When I set a character or multiple characters aside, like in The Vineyard, what is considered "3 turns"?
http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/The_Vineyard_(Pr)

I know that it means 3 of my turns. And does that mean on the 3rd turn, when I put the 3rd counter on, I can Immediantly put the characters back in my territory? Or do I need to wait for the final counter to sit on them a full turn?
Sorry if this is confusing. It's a bit hard to explain.

Thanks!
