I go into battle with new Gabriel (ability not important for question) and am blocked with Prince of this World (Immune to lone Heroes.). I play Protection of Angels (Interrupt the battle and protect all Heroes in play and set aside areas from evil cards until end of turn.). What happens? Can you protect from immunity?

It's a stalemate.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

Gabe's right, but just on your last part, you aren't protecting from immunity, you are protecting from abilities/numbers.  That Prince is immune has no bearing on the protection.

So...what's the functional difference between protect and immunity again...?
Just one more thing...

You are immune to him and he is immune to you but it is not the same as ignore. You just can't hurt each other but you are still being blocked. If you ignored him then you could make the rescue.

Well one you're opposing character is treated as if he is a disease that you've been treated for, and the other he is treated as if he is a threat.  ;) Other than that no real difference.
