Immune

I’ve always had a bit of trouble understanding a scenario in which one character is immune to the opposing character(s), but one banded character is not immune to those opposing characters so I wanted to seek clarification for this.

Scenario:

Red Dragon bands to Abaddon. They’re opposed by human heroes. The strength of those heroes is defeating Abaddon, but not RD bc of his immunity to human heroes. And the strength of the ECs is defeating the heroes. If the battle ended at his point, Abaddon would be defeated (discarded) but not RD, thus the defender wins the battle. Is this correct?

The REG does not specify the outcome of this kind of scenario.

If the strength of the Heroes is beating Abaddon+RD combined then Abaddon would be discarded as part of battle resolution, otherwise he's fine.

Correct. The REG does say that, it just didn’t say what happens in the type of scenario I presented. The wording in the REG sounds funky as it makes it sound like RD and Ab would both be defeated.

In your specific scenario -

From the REG:
   - A card that is immune to or protected from cards cannot be targeted by the strength or an ability on a card to
which it is immune to or protected from, nor on an Enhancement used by that card (if a character).
   - When comparing the strength of one character to the toughness of a second character that is immune to or
protected from the first character, the strength of the first character is treated as zero.

The above apply to Red Dragon vs. the Heroes...

The following applies to sorting out the rest -
Special Conditions
   - When there are more than two characters in a battle that are affected by immune and/or protect effects, you
must follow a different process to determine the state of the battle and what characters in battle are being
defeated. That process is defined as follows:
     1. Each character in battle that is not immune to or protected from any opposing characters in battle is
being defeated if the total strength of all characters on the opponent’s side of battle is greater than or
equal to the total toughness of all the characters on its side of battle.
     2. Each character in battle that is immune to or protected from at least one opposing character in battle is
being defeated only if the total strength of the characters that it is not immune to or protected from on
the opponent’s side of battle is greater than or equal to the total toughness of all the characters on its
side of battle.

1. represents what happens to Abaddon.... defeated

2. represents what happens with Red Dragon immunity to Heroes... stalemate by immunity. Number 2 simply clarifies how to resolve the immunity issue if Red Dragon is not Immune to all Heroes in battle for some reason. But, you are correct, it can be read a little funky.
