I was under the impression that healing always brings up heroes to full strength.

There have been discussions in the past regarding the special ability of Brass Serpent.  Upon searching, I cannot find any past threads.  I'm guessing they were deleted.

This is what the REG says in HEAL:

Healing cards may be activated on any character in play (e.g., territory) of matching brigade color.  They may target any card being discarded or subject to a poison or disease special ability, regardless of brigade color.   The healing effect is instant, not delayed.  You can play a healing enhancement at any time to restore a character sent to the discard pile at any previous time during the turn (e.g., Draw Phase or Preparation Phase).  The discarded character may come from battle, a territory, a set-aside area, or from a draw pile (e.g., Confusion).  Cards being discarded can be healed on the way to the discard pile.  Cards being discarded from anywhere may be healed at any point during that turn.  Characters discarded on a previous turn cannot be healed.  A healed card is immediately placed in the owner’s territory; they retain all their abilities.

----------------------------------

The two lines that I bolded would lead me to believe that you cannot heal the decrease, since it is not a disease or poison. Therefore, the only use of the heal card would be when they are being discarded. So, if you use the heal card to prevent the discard, the second line bolded above would indicate that the character would not take the decrease, since they "retain" their pre-decrease abilities.

In answer to your question, though, you cannot completely restore the abilities that were decreased in a previous turn. They would only retain the current numbers before the discard accompanied by the heal card. Whether the original printing of Brass Serpent intended this I do not know, but the errata seems to prevent what you were hoping to accomplish.

Hey,

YMT is on target with this one.  When you heal a character it only undoes poison, disease, and discard effects on that character.  The 3/3 decrease of Men of Judah is none of those thus it would not be removed by any healing ability.  (You could use a healing card to prevent the 3/3 decrease to begin with, but not to recover it after the decrease has happened).

I am Sustainer is the only card I can think of that could restore the decreases from Men of Judah's ability.

Holy crap... Would IaS make those two cards "Invincible" in terms of discards??

Hey,

Backwards shadow perhaps?

That card crossed my mind, but the "cannot fall below face value" has to have the same target as the "heal any hero in play."  If you healed the character from the first time it was about to be decreased 3/3 with Backwards shadow it would then keep it from decreasing in the future.

I normally use I am Sustainer when I build the big red band because it does make the armies practically impervious to discard abilities.
