I just recently heard at my last tournament that there is a rule that you can band only one hero from hand and you aren't able to band an evil character from hand? Is this true and provide proof please? I just never heard of this rule and want to be able to rule it correctly in the future games and stuffs

now wait a second....I remember a time that I could not band in my saul if he was in my hand and I had generics in territory to block....was that a bad ruling? This was back around after Apostles was released so it might have changed since then....

was that a bad ruling?

Yep. Or at least, a similar ruling would be bad if it were to be made today.

so to clarify...if I have multiple evil characters in my hand and you attack me, I can block with all of them if they band together instead of requiring them to be in territory? Something doesn't seem right about that...and based off the rule book does not make sense...

Perhaps there are a couple questions being asked/answered here...

If a character or enhancement says that you may band to one hero/evil character, that hero/evil character can be in your territory, your opponent's territory, or your hand. If it's a Pharisee that allows you to band to all Pharisees, then I believe that they must all be in play. This is the way that we have always played it, so if this is not correct, it would be good to know.

Therefore, if you have a banding chain where each character bands to another, you could band them all in (one at a time) from hand.

Where in the rule book does it seem to say you can't? Like I said, if we've been playing it wrong here, we need to be informed. :)

You have to band either no cards, or all of them in play + any number you choose from hand.

Interesting. I didn't realize you could band from your hand in that situation. Thanks!

not that I don't disagree, but where are you getting that from? based on the definition of banding from the REG it does not say a thing about where the targets come from.

Banding
Banding is a special ability given to characters. Banding allows two or more characters to join together. When two or more characters are banded together, they are regarded as a combined force in strength and toughness. Banding cards are played during battle. The banding special ability can be either on a character or on an enhancement. The banding card does not hold the second character in battle; it is simply what allows the second character to join the battle.

And why would pharisses be treated any differently than say esau or any other banding character? I know this is something elementary that I am missing somewhere...

Pharisees say that may band all into battle, why are the targets for the band not in play since we can only play characters during our turn or one evil character when we block....Esau says may band to any OT who fought earthly battle. Again I thought the target of the band had to be in territory in order to work...if please give me the source that would say why.

I'm just saying that because that's how multiple elders told me to do it at the t2 only. I assumed you needed to band all from all avaiable locations (hand or territory)

Also from the REG under the Default Conditions for Band:
Quote
Banding cards that say “from your hand” mean add from your hand, those that say “in play” mean band from a territory, and those that have no specific indicator can be either.

That was what I was looking for...very interesting that I have never heard that definition of band since the beginning. I will rescind my question and remember this for future tournaments...

Can someone confirm that you actually can band from territory and hand with something like Pharisees? Based on my quote from the REG, "those that have no specific indicator can be either" not both...

I don't know where to find the confirmation, but I do know that Rawr is correct. A Pharisee, if you decide to band, bands to all Pharisees in play and as many as you want from your hand.
