Artifact Abilities

When somebody deactivates an Artifact, does the effect end right away or last until end of turn?  Case in point, my opponent has an Altar of Ahaz active:

Altar of Ahaz

Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect all Lost Souls from rescue by Dominants. Discard this card if a human Hero rescues a Lost Soul from your territory. • Identifiers: OT, Depicts an Evil Altar, False Religious Practice • Verse: II Kings 16:11 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Ultra Rare)

He deactivates and activates Tables of the Law:

Tables of the Law

Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Holder may keep up to ten cards in hand instead of eight. • Identifiers: OT, Tabernacle Item, Temple Item • Verse: Exodus 24:12 • Availability: Warriors booster packs (Uncommon) and G Deck

Can he then immediately play SoG and NJ to win the game or does he have to wait until my turn?  I know its a moot point in this case because his dominants can be played at any time but I was just curious how artifact abilities resolve for future games.

In AMERICA!!

When Tables of the Law is activated, Alter of Ahaz's ability ceases to be in effect.  He can play SoG/NJ.

The same goes for any artifact being played in a similar situation.
3 Prophets Packs ftw
