Playable without sleeves?

How damaged does a card have to be so that it is not playable without a sleeve?  Does it have to have obvious tears, creases and marks?  or does just a little bit of edge damage received from shuffling deem a card not playable without a sleeve?

If you think your cards are questionable at all, then play with sleeves.  Really I think everyone should play with sleeves anyway as it protects the cards, and just looks cooler :)

If you do terribly in a tournament, then no one will care.  But if you win a lot, and your cards are questionable, then people might wonder.  And the Bible tells us to live above reproach.

While I certainly agree with you, I need to know what makes cards playable without sleeves for the purpose of advertising them for sale or trade.  I don't want to gyp someone by falsely telling them the cards I'm giving them are playable without sleeves; nor do I want to gyp myself by doing the opposite.  Hence the reason this post is in the Marketplace.

Playable without sleeves is relative. If your whole deck has been the same forever, and therefore wears the same, you probably don't need sleeves even if they're worn on the edges.

Normally, playable without sleeves is similar to mint condition but there may be scratches/nicks on the front. The back for the most part is unblemished. Anything other than that I would recommend you specifically list the defects on the card.

The term generally means that if the cards are face down in a deck, you can not discern one card from another. Rips, folds, and obvious edge damage or discoloration would make cards discernable.

As an extreme example, if you have one notch on the top right to signify Son of God and two notches on the middle left to signify New Jerusalem, you could conceivably know what cards are coming in future draws which would impact your decision-making (a.k.a. cheating).
