Advice on selling collection
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:28:50 PM »

I have been involved with Redemption since the very beginning. Play test groups, retail store, ran 2 different play groups have cards going all the way back to the start of the game. Sadly we had to close our store a few years ago and now I have decided to sell my collection. I am asking for advice on selling the many items that I have: Cards, an uncut sheet, posters, error cards, out of print sealed items, etc. I am trying to figure out if ebay is worth it or if trying to sell here on the boards is easy enough for someone who has never done it befor. Any suggestions/help is appreciated!

out of print sealed items

Do elaborate...

Though I think the best market for some of those is right here, as it is a special group that is going to buy uncut sheets or error cards for instance.  The kinds of people who buy error cards know exactly which ones they want already, for example, and they will check here for them.

I think more successful sales have been in parts (by type of item being sold), either completely here on the boards or through eBay with a thread here to direct people there.  I would make some threads to split out what you have and see if there is anyone interested in taking all of particular groups (like the error cards or sealed sets) or if people want specific items you have.  You'll get a better idea of the market that way too.

For example. I have original starter decks (sealed), women's boosters (sealed), all 4 women's error cards (do I sell them individually or as a set), an uncut sheet of women's cards with the errors, Original Redemption posters (some signed by Rob), Updated posters, print run of cards that Rob sent to ask us for our opinion (some of the cards on the sheets don't have art because they were still ideas), and that's just the start. I will need to go through my storage crates since it's been 3 years since we closed our store. I'm just trying to figure out how to start selling this collection. Thanks Redoubter for your advice! I'll keep an eye on this post to see what other great ideas may come and then try my hand at listing a few things.

I'm one of the collectors who would be interested in some of what you have....the bummer thing is that I just spent money on a super rare board game.  Sooooo, I hope the prices are decent.

Typically, this board is your best bet for the target audience/interest though ebay is possible too.  Ken4Christ would know for sure since he has used both locations, and he has his own website.

The most money would come in breaking up your set, since only a limited number of people can lay down a large lump sum of cash down for a huge collection.  However, piecing it out would leave you with undesirable/cheap cards in the end.

Any chance you can post some pictures of some of these items?

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Thanks for the responses. Once I get everything out of storage I will take some pictures and post them. I was cleaning up my study/office today and found a box of tournament results from my play group and started thinking about an idea I had a few years ago to use a domain name I own to sell stuff. I bought redemptioncardgame.com when our store was going strong, but when the economy turned against us I had to put that idea on hold. I still own the domain name, so I guess that's for sale too. Anyway, the longer I dwelt on what to do with all of my Redemption stuff the more I realized I need to stop putting this off and come up with an idea of how to sell it all. So I spent an hour online and then decided to reach out to the experts here on this message board :) With your help I'm sure I can come up with the best way of sorting and selling almost 20 years worth of stuff

To get rid of them all, I would sell them in lots or as cheap bulk.

Shpibby,

When I sold my collection a few years ago I first sold individual cards. It took some time but I mainly just listed the Ultra Rares and strong Rares when I did that. After that I started selling a lot of the commons and uncommons in lots for pretty cheap. The last thing I did was donate the remaining cards to a playgroup that needed them.

This seemed to be a pretty good method to maximizing the value of what I had but was still able to help some groups in the end as well.

With all of that being said when you figure out what your going to do and when let me know as well because I need to rebuild my collection for my new playgroup and there are cards I'm sure you have that I would gladly buy from you.

Setting individually is definitely the best option. When I sold all my cards, I had two offers for everything around the $300 range. Selling individually, I sold stuff for like $500 in the first week and like $2000 total.

The boards are the best place to sell.

Selling individally will get you more money but will take longer, selling in bulk will get you less money but is quicker. Its that way with most collections.

Yeah, if you put in the work to get clear listings and then price yourself lower than TLG, you'll do fine here. Ebay is really probably only useful to grab a few bucks on bulk stuff I'd imagine. Most of the big spenders check this board anyway, so this is the easier site to use.

Shipibby,

For you I would sell them as follows in differnt sets.

Error cards-$100 (this is just an estimate, I don't know exacalty what you have)
Older cards (from original to priests)-$300
Newer cards (TexP to TEC)-$200
Uncut sheets-$30
Posters-$3
Promos-$75
Sealed items-$100

Thanks again for all of these great ideas - please keep them coming.

I pulled the crates from storage and spent a few hours reacquainting myself with all that I have collected over the years. I hope soon to begin listing cards in some sort of order that will allow everyone to know what I have available. I will have lots and lots of singles, a TON of Ultra Rares, Promo cards, Individual Booster Packs, Sealed Starter Decks (Even A/B Decks) and more! I'll soon have pictures, but for now let me post some of the special items I will be selling:

Original Redemption Posters

Sword of the Spirit Posters (Signed by artist - Doug Gray)

Sword of the Spirit poster (unsigned)

Uncut Sheet of Women cards - All 4 error cards are on this sheet plus the "New Jerusalem" Dominant (Band version)

First Test Sheet of Women cards (No Art Work. Sent to us to test ideas and concepts.) - showing: "Foolish Advice" was initially to be a Gray Evil Enhancement with totally different ability; "Couch of Adultery" a card title we discussed with Rob as maybe not being a good idea, so on the second Test Sheet it was renamed "Temptation"; "Halah" site was initially to be white; "Herod's Dungeon" site was initially to be green; "Rizpah" Gold Evil Character that was never made, instead it was changed to "Rizpah's Sackcloth" Gold Evil Enhancement

Second Test Sheet of Women cards (Has some art work, as not all had been completed. Sent to us for final run through of ideas) - showing "Halah" site still being shown to be white; "Herod's Dungeon" site still being shown to be green; "New Jerusalem" Dominant (Band version)

Women Play Test Cards (No Art Work. Sent to us to test ideas and concepts.) - showing: "Foolish Advice" was initially to be a Gray Evil Enhancement; "Couch of Adultery" a card title we discussed with Rob as maybe not being a good idea, later renamed "Temptation"; "Idle Women" Gray Evil Character that was never made; "Halah" site was initially to be white; "Herod's Dungeon" site was initially to be green; "Rhoda" as a Green Hero which ened up being changed to "Rhoda's Gladness" Green Good Enhancement (Rhoda would later be introduced into the game first as a Tournament Participant Promo Card and later in the The Early Church set); "Lamenting for Jepthah's Daughter" Blue Hero which ened up being changed to "Lamenting for Jepthah's Daughter" Blue Good Enhancement; "Rizpah" Red Hero which ened up being changed to "Rizpah's Sackcloth" Gold Evil Enhancement, "Priscilla" White hero which ened up being changed to "Bravery of Priscilla"

Women Error Cards - Set of all four in a sealed display holder

All Four Women Error Cards to be sold sold as singles

More to come as I continue to organize 20 years of Redemption cards and collectables

I will throw my hat in the ring here for your items. I would entertain offering you a lump sum for the whole lot if you are open to that.

I agree that these special items will make collectors very happy! I haven't finished sorting all that I will have for sale so I haven't even thought about pricing these items yet. I have received several messages regarding the items I have already mentioned. If there is early interest in these items I guess I can go ahead and consider bids now, but if anyone wants me to put a value on my entire collection it will definitely take a little time to come up with that number. I continue to be open to ideas and advice as I begin to list what I have available.

Tonight I have been pulling out all of my Ultra Rares. What I will have for sale are all Mint Condition and have been kept in individual card protectors! So far I have 82 individual card titles with multiples of most of them. I will probably find more as I still have a few more boxes to look through. Again, these are all Ultra Rares.

I am seeking advice on how best to sell these Ultra Rares. I am currently making a list that will include the quantity for each card title that I am selling but I am not sure if I should list a price for each of them or allow offers. I am also wondering how most collectors/players prefer to pay for items. Is PayPal used or another form of payment. How is shipping factored in?

Thanks for all of the great posts and private messages! This board continues to be a blessing for someone who has never ventured into the world of selling things online!

Up to what expansion did you stop collecting cards? Do you have any Disciples, TexP or TEC?
