1994 Play Test Vain Philosophy (UPDATED)!!!
« on: August 01, 2019, 03:02:01 PM »
+2
Just pulled one of the original 1994 play test cards; taking offers. I can post or send pictures.

Update: I spoke with rob. He said that this is the only copy of the card that he is aware of. They sold a red dragon on eBay a few years back and it sold for a little over 100$

Do you have a price in mind?  The price range on these could honestly be crazy depending on the market so I'll start you off with a $10.00 bid.

I'm not doubting that, I am curious to see the market and what people who collect are going to be willing to pay.

hmmm.... I wonder where a White Brigade Angel at Shur (1 of 3) would be at in the market? and speaking of that, do we happen to know where the other 2 are?

MasterKChief told me he had a white Angel of Shur before he went inactive.  He went inactive before I could talk it off of him.

That appears to be 2 mostly accounted for. Anyone know where the 3rd is? And back to my question, where would these fall price-wise in the current collectors market?

With so few copies of the card in existence, the only way to get a rough idea of the market value would be to find out what the current holders paid for them and/or what they would be willing to sell them for.

Here’s a break down of how many of each were produced and distributed. There were 18 cards per sheet.

- Darkness LS (~2 sheets) - 1st place only and tournament workers
- PoZ (~2 sheets) - topcut and tournament workers
- Moses (~2 sheets) - tournament workers only
- TSA (~3 sheets) - 1st and 2nd place, tournament workers
- CM (~4 sheets) - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, tournament workers

Darkness LS - 36 exist  $90
PoZ - 36 exist              $50
Moses - 36 exist           $50
TSA - 54 exist              $70
CM - 72 exist               $60

These prices seem to indicate a desirability factor and maybe a couple other contributing factors also. Fewer PoZ and Moses were printed, yet their price is lower than TSA or CM in which more were printed.

With so few copies of the card in existence, the only way to get a rough idea of the market value would be to find out what the current holders paid for them and/or what they would be willing to sell them for.

The 3rd part and probably the biggest is what the collector/player is willing to pay for the card. Is an item really worth the asking price if no one is willing to pay that amount?
Just talking out loud here. Does anyone want to make a wild estimation/guess at what they think the value of a White Brigade Angel at Shur could be based on the information given here?
Error Card - White Brigade Angel at Shur - 3 known to exist - I have kept mine in a hard plastic card display holder - I am not a card grader, but I was figure it to be near-mint... any guesses? as I am just fishing here to see what the community thinks...

Godspeed,
Mike

I'm not really a collector, but if I were I would probably be willing to pay about $100 for a "1 of 3" card.

I have wrestled with trying to place an objective value on it, simply because I like the card in my collection. Putting that aside and looking at some of the current card prices, I still run into some cards prices that don't make a whole lot of sense to me. That could very well be due to not knowing the background on distribution/rarity in existence.
My examples are Three Woes Bordered vs. Borderless and Shipwreck Bordered vs. Borderless. I would value the Borderless higher due to looks/appeal and seemingly more demand, but that may not be the entire case here.

The availability of borderless Woes and Shipwreck rose considerably when those were added as chase cards in the Prophecies of Christ Phase 1 boxes. At this point, I would guess not many Early Church boxes are being opened so the supply of regular border Shipwrecks is fairly stable. Revelation of John boxes are probably being opened more often, but not to the extent that PoC1 boxes were after its release.

Who sold a red dragon?  Rob?  One of the original playtesters?  I only check ebay on a rarity cause I get upset at some of the absurd pricing a few people go with.  But that's cool, I could see it going.  My problem with Vain Philosophy if someone really wanted could be duped (among other cards) because I'm assuming the front is literally something printed off and glued onto another card.
