What pack to go for

I'll be going to a tournament tomorrow. Yay! First one in a couple months, and another one with Kayleigh, fun times!

But I have a question. If I am to buy (or by a fluke, win) some packs there and I can choose between Disciples and Thesaurus, which should I go for?

Cards I would like: Grapes of Wrath, Mayhem, Abraham's Descendant, Faith as a Mustard Seed, Watchful Servant.

The older cards that come with the packs, I'll already have, so those aren't a consideration. In which do I have a better shot of getting a card I want, and which has better trading fodder in general?

TxP if for no other reason than a shot at Mayhem.  But the warriors cards in TxP can occasionally be awesome trading fodder.

I do believe, however, that you will have better odds at getting what you want from disciples.  And sometimes a revealer or first round protect lost soul will pop up in the angel wars section of the pack.

Assuming a random distribution, you have better odds of getting a specific Di card than a specific TexP card (4/115 compared to 2/60), but I don't think the distribution is truly random (at least not for me, since I've only gotten one Grapes of Wrath from a pack, but probably 7-8 Centurion at Capernaum). For the cards you listed, you are more likely to get the Di cards, or at least other Di that you can trade for what you want. Getting a GoW or Mayhem is the Redemption equivalent of winning the lottery.

What the prof says is true, but as they say in the Arizona Lottery, 'you can't with if you don't play'

I thought only foil packs were available for tournament prizes?  Did I miss something?

John Mxyzptlk* is awesome. He'll let you get anything from his stock with the converted winnings. So if you're supposed to win 3 booster packs, you can get anything from his stock worth $9. (You can take leftover dollars as blue packs, to trade in unopened if you win something later.) It's probably not common practice, but it's one more reason it's awesome to have him as a playgroup leader.

But my now-fiancee Kayleigh has a 100% success rate with her tournaments (won an event at both tournaments she's attended). While I'm not expecting to win a thing, we pool our cards, so it'll be good to help her pick out what she wants. :)

*Yes, the two of us share that last name.

Oh, right, I forget you were in CT.  When's this tournament?  I'm sitting in Reading, MA as I type this.  John M.'s great about prizes like that.

Tournament's tomorrow in Westfield, MA, around the "notch" of Connecticut. So not very close to Reading, sadly. If you're up for a 2 hour drive each way, then show up tomorrow at noon at the Morningstar and have a great time.

So I've got logic driving me to pick Disciples, emotion driving me to pick Thesaurus, and maybe SomeKittens driving to Westfield. Tough choices.

I think I should be able to come, either my girlfriend will drive me or I can hitch a ride with John M.  With you there, it looks like some tough competition.

You're going to pick TxP then, because 80% of human action is based on emotion.

On a completely unrelated 90% of statistics are made up on the spot.

On a completely unrelated not 90% of statistics are made up on the spot.
75% of respondents say it's actually 84% of statistics.

While I'm honored, I'm not really a threat anymore. My refusal to play with the most popular cards for what I can only describe as hipsterish reasons, coupled with a lack of knowledge of what most cards printed after 2008 do and lack of playing against people besides my fiancee, make me a has-been who still has fun playing. :) But you watch out for Kayleigh in Booster Draft or (dare I say it) Sealed Teams...
