Hi again,

since release cycles of REG became shorter and shorter (which is really great), additional explanatory documents occur (which is also fantastic and really helpful) and the Erratas are growing next to all the complexity the game provides - how do you deal with all this, above all during tournaments and while judging games?

I am asking this since we're trying to set up a community here in Germany and also want to hold some tournaments in future if possible (please see Stefan's thread here). Currently I do not have any clue about how to handle this!

Thank you in advance for your helpful hints!

Bye

The important thing is to learn the rules as best you can, and be willing to give yourself and others grace if you or they make a mistake.

Any game or competition is going to have instances where the judge/referee/umpire gets it wrong--the NFL is a billion dollar industry and they still have issues with game rulings being incorrect.

We do the best we can and if a mistake happens, we try to fix it, but if we can't then we learn from it and move on.  8)

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Indeed-- Tim "SirNobody" Maly has a really great story about this kind of thing happening. He doesn't jump on the forum much, but I have asked him if he would be willing to share it as a great example of sportsmanship when an incorrect ruling was given. If he doesn't get back to me, I'll try to summarize it as best I can remember, but hopefully he can share himself.

Did this ruling have something to do with a guy who really wanted to look at his Reserve?

No, this was a situation from way back in the day (Nationals 2003 I think).
