With the new O.T. Red heroes just spoiled, what do you guys think is the best T1 red lineup now?

My guess is:

David the Shepherd
Benaiah
Jonathan, Son of Shimei
Caleb
Ahimaaz
Asahel
Uriah the Hittite
Ishmaiah the Gibeonite
Ahimelek the Hittite
Joab

Obviously the strategy and defense will impact the selections.

I'd run Elhanan in there somewhere, just because reserve access will help a lot. I could also easily see Joshua in there as well, for a bigger Benaiah banding chain and another Josh hero for hailstones.

Good points! The problem I see though is getting initiative- Ahimaaz and Uriah are about the only ones with low numbers. Perhaps you'll have a choose the blocker target for Asahel too.

I personally think any mono Red deck that doesn't run Jehu is probably suboptimal.

Also, running Ahimaaz and therefore adding a 3rd good brigade will probably be more risk than reward in a FoM meta.

Josh won't get you a bigger Benaiah banding chain - reread Caleb's ability

Inish has always been a little rough for Red, but they also have a ton of interrupts and negates. It's kind of a toss-up at this point. Uriah and the old 1/1 from FooF/RoA are more or less your options, and only Uriah is remotely playable. Asahel's choose the blocker tends to win more battles than his band does, but the band has a habit of drawing more with Ishmaiah.

The Red/Throne deck I ran at Nats last year used Joshua as a secondary core with Cap, Spy, and Rahab as his targets. It worked well as a sort of backup package, and Josh-Cap can do wonders for bludgeoning through defences. Sadly, as Benaiah will probably be better, so that changes his targets, reasonably, to Caleb and possibly spy (Though Ahamaaz is almost a straight upgrade). Unless more Joshua heroes show up (I could see armies like the one that ambushed Ai in the future) Josh is going to be somewhat limited in usefulness this set.

Which is sad, because I like him. He's sorta a worse David for the deck, but you can still do work with the team he gives. It's a secondary helper if your David's buried/discarded/captured/banished/prevented.

Spy is great. It's just harder to find spots for him in a crowded deck. He's nice for info and better with Rahab in territory, but Rahab breaks Unity and Ahamaaz is almost entirely better.

@Bobbert - maybe it's PTSD from playing Gabe so many times, but my experience is that if you don't control inish you (most) often lose the battle

Captain of the Host

The Judges player in me would probably include AUtO/Sam but if I was looking to stay in red then my next adds would probably be Uriah, King Jehu, and/or Ahimaaz (not necessarily in that order).
