Getting More Cards

Hey all, I have just started out, and so far have the I+J starter gift set, RoA tin 26, and the assorted boosters that came along with those.

Playing other card games with my kids we usually play 3-way, so I need some more cards. (especially souls)

Has anyone bought the 500 card grab bag? Did it contain any lost souls? (i believe some typically come in booster product, yes? I'm assuming the grab bag is leftovers of packs cracked for value cards) If it does I think between that, and the loose cards I already have, I should be able assemble at least one more deck.

Otherwise, I'll probably get the G&H starters, and a couple more boosters or something.

Thoughts?

I would suggest investing in some of the challenger decks that are available on www.yourturngames.biz vs the G/H decks. My first introduction to the game was I/J starters, G/H starters and a couple Angel Wars boosters. G/H were not very interesting to me and played SLOW.... I think the challenger decks on YTG give more variety and are still pretty even in terms of playstyle and resources. None will drastically overmatch the other so it will keep things level with your kids. Just a thought as I did not enjoy anything about the G/H decks. I/J is the next advancement and going back from that will be a slower pace game with more battle by the numbers turns, which don't keep my interests personally.

thanks for that suggestion, I did see the challenger decks, but I think the challenger decks are a bit overkill at this point. My kids are 5 and 7 :D We will just be playing between ourselves, not in a playgroup or anything, so slower speeds won't be too much of a hang up. :D

There are also a bunch of people here with a ton of extra older cards that they would be willing to get you for pennies on the dollar or possibly even donate.  If you have an idea of what you might want let us know and we will go from there!

Where are you (the state) in the NE region?  If you're close to me, then I can help you out.

EDIT:  I'm pretty confident that I have plenty of cards that will be fine for you and your 2 young kids. I'm in the NE region too. (PA/NY border)

But I do agree with jhendrix even at 5-7 ( that around the time I started playing ) to keep interest I needed to play faster decks I understand you might not mind it. But games are Way more fun when you play with decks that have more synergy and lots more to do 😝

Thank you all for the kind and generous offers! It is very much appreciated!

We are quite a bit further north, in NH :D

Having put many years into those other card games myself, I totally get it :D We are just warming up to Redemption now, and I do expect to be powering up decks in the future :D For now though, I think some extra bulk would do us just fine :D My main concern was whether or not said bulk would contain enough souls to form another deck, but I see that they are readily available as singles, so that's not so much of a concern any more :D

Krenko,

With what you're looking for I highly suggest purchasing our Battle Box product.  It has 200 cards spanning multiple expansions, including contemporary expansions, and has 14 lost souls, a few dominants, and some themed brigades, enough to make two decks and then some.  In my opinion, our Battle Boxes are a MUCH better product than Cactus' grab bag, which may have more cards than the Battle Boxes but they are only from a few of the earlier expansions, most of which are unplayable at this point.  Each Battle Box is only $39.95 with $2 shipping.

Feel free to PM me or email me at info@yourturngames.biz with any questions.

And to this point, maybe you're confusing Challenger Decks with Contender Decks.  Challenger Decks are designed with the new player in mind and are to be used in addition to or instead of starter decks; they simply add a few more abilities and modifiers than starter decks.  Contender Decks, on the other hand, are definitely more advanced and are not recommended for your situation as they are designed for tournament play.

Hopefully this helps!

I have spent quite some time on yourturn too, trying to figure out the best acquisition strategy :D I did see the difference between your different level decks, and the dueling pairs, which is really cool. Duel deck sets is how i got started with those other guys, so that for sure is not making my decision any easier :D

The spike in me is definitely leaning towards the less is more option, even though I know paper play will probably never leave the house. The timmy/hoarder side of me just wants the most cards I can get :D
