lol I came on this thread thinking you guys were talking about deck protectors... such as sleeves for cards & decks. Although this isn't the topic of discussion, Dragon Shield all the way! lol

They don't last that long though. and way too expensive

They don't last that long though. and way too expensive

Well, I've had some from over a decade ago and they're still lasting me. Yes, they are pricy I can't argue with that. But I enjoy them the best out of the other brands.

Well, I've had some from over a decade ago and they're still lasting me. Yes, they are pricy I can't argue with that. But I enjoy them the best out of the other brands.

Mine didn't last a month. I have some sleeves that lasted a year and they were cheaper. idk....i'm not saying cheaper is better.

Dragon Shield are worth the money imo. I've had my blue dragon shields for 5+ years and although they show some wear, they're still high quality and only a few aren't usable. Whereas inferior sleeves, such as Player's Choice, won't last a year.

Gold Dragon Shields - I won't use anything else now. The 300 or so sleeves have lasted me for four years. Before that, Derrick Schafer (3rd 2003 RNRS T2-2) used them.

I use Ultra-pro pretty much anything. I have seen both Dragon Shields and Ultra-pros rip down the side. My friend Daniel had 100 Dragonshields and had to switch to Ultra-pro because he had less than 50 left after they all ripped. That being said I have a set of standard Ultra-pro shield from 12 years ago that are still holding together. They are scuffed from use but still useable.

are you talking about the red ones that you had? I traded him those for some cards because i was just gonna throw them away since i wasn't gonna use them

No I don't think any you guys who aren't at the weekly playgroup have seen them. They are semi-retired. I want to just hang onto them but they keep getting pressed into Booster Draft duty. I have had them since I was 15/16. They are black standard ultra-pros.

I was going to say the same thing, "how are you shuffling?". If you're really hard on your cards when you shuffle you would perhaps need a thicker type of sleeve like dragon shield. But if you shuffle by doing numerous cuts and shifting cards into different sections of each other then perhaps you ought to use ultra-pro or player's choice. They seem to use a thiner material.

I personally have a very hard shuffle. I put a big crease near the top center of my cards so I need a thicker type like dragon shield. it does damage the cards but I'm not concerned about the condition because I enjoy playing a lot and if time comes to trade I'll just have to down shift the value of the card due to the damaged done by shuffling.

I always use the tower shuffle. Fast enough, and keeps my sleeves/cards pristine!

Regarding shuffling, another reason I like my gold Dragon Shields is that I can do an "intermingling" type shuffle similar to how you would shuffle a deck of playing cards. I cut my deck in half and then press the two halves together at the sides with hardly any effort. It's so much faster to shuffle that way than doing stacks, which is very important considering the types of decks I play.

"tower shuffle"? lol I haven't heard of that. Some people should put together some tutorials or something so that I could perhaps change my method so I have better conditioned cards lol.

Deal out the cards into X piles. Put all the piles together.

X is usually five for me, though I've also seen eight.

I alternate between riffle and pile shuffles due to the fact I love a nice random deck. 5 piles or 8 depending on deck size. I use ultra-pro or legends sleeves now.
