I direct a week of camp in Northwestern Ohio every summer. Of course we have lots of Redemption being played but I was wondering about expanding that a bit. I had the idea of holding a week of summer camp that is entirely centered around the game of Redemption. Devotions and chapels would use cards as a way to explain Bible stories and themes. Activities would include booster drafts, sealed deck events, and other things like that. We could even get more creative with stuff like Redemption scavenger hunts, cabin skits using Redemption characters...all just me putting ideas down as they flow. I would love to have your thoughts about either being a camper (anyone 18 and under) or being a volunteer (counselor, cook, lifeguard, etc) at a week of camp like that. I know that theologically we come from so many different tribes, but I honestly think something like this could transcend those differences. Generally the weeks of camp at our facility cost about $175 a week per camper as a point of reference since cost is almost always the first question brought up. Please feel free to chime in.

That sounds like something I would absolutely love to be involved in... but unfortunately I have a slight geographical disadvantage

I like the idea for sure. It sounds like you may be going this direction but perhaps this could be more focused on newcomers (with current players bringing a friend who's new to the game) where the week is actually a school about Redemption, beginning with the basics at the start of the week to building on concepts, strategies, deck building, etc, throughout the week and culminating to a local tourney at the end of the week. Part of the tuition cost could go toward a starter deck and X amount of certain booster packs (like supplies and curriculum in a training class) for each student/camper with the option of the students to buy more throughout the week, if they wish. And like you mentioned, this could be used as an outreach opportunity for those who attend (believers and unbelievers) where the camp would incorporate Biblical teaching, encouragement and exhortation, love, fellowship, and prayer all through the Biblical references and themes related to the game.

Here in Minnesota, we had a lot of success doing what we called Redemption "mini-camps." Basically it was a 1 week camp of about 3 hours a day, 9 am to noon. Bill shared a bit about it in his Playgroup-building article on Land of Redemption. Obviously that would be a much smaller scale than a full-blown camp, but much less work in terms of logistics.

Thanks for all of the input. I am not opposed to doing the logistical work to get something like this up and running. As a matter of fact, much of that work is already done since I already host a week. I would love for this to be a place where new players get to know the game of Redemption under the tutelage of more experienced players and hosts.

If you could somehow making getting up there for a week easier, then you have my full support as a human being with relevant skills regarding both redemption and serving as a camp counselor.

I could be interested in this. As a former teacher, camp councilor of five years, bassist (in case there aren't any for the worship, Bass is not popular), Redemption player of well over a decade, believer that Redemption is very close to being ready to unleash its evangelistic and edific superpowers on the nerd community, and someone who already points out Redemption->Bible->Life syllogisms in casual conversation, logistics are the only question for me.

Clearly doing something like this during the major tournament season (a.k.a. summer) would be difficult to pull off. My thought would be to hold the camp in late Spring. Late enough that most are out of school and early enough that we will not be competing with too many other camps/mission trips/ etc. If we play our cards right...pun intended...we could even have camp week fall on the same week as new set release.
