Moving to Wisconsin!
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:19:25 AM »
Friends,

I have been searching for a more permanent job for some time (as I was just working a temporary job after graduating college in December). The LORD has blessed me by allowing me to be in the running for 3 jobs that I am in the final stages of interviewing for at this point in time. I have already gone through initial rounds of interviews at these jobs. I am very zealous to bring God glory through my work and want this to be completely about Him.

Please be praying that:
- I continue to find favor in the eyes of these 3 potential employers.
- God grants me the ability to continue interviewing effectively and discernment to evaluate potential job offers.
- God works everything according to His will and that He receives all the glory.

I have given a brief overview of each opportunity below. I have ordered them according to the order I will be meeting with them (aka in order of which to pray for more urgently).

SafeFoods
I am meeting with this company tomorrow (Monday, July 11) at 3 pm CST. This company is a food safety company based in Little Rock. I would be traveling internationally 2 weeks out of the month to help foreign clients market food safety products to their customers. This job appears to be the best option as far as resume building and work experience. It appears to pay in a range in between the other 2 jobs.

Epic Systems
I have an all day interview on Thursday (July 14) in Verona, WI (20 min west of Madison). This is a healthcare software company. I would be traveling 3-4 weeks out of the month helping healthcare organizations implement standardized patient medical record software. This job appears to be the highest paying option ($60k+), which would allow me to fully pay off my college loans in 2 years.

DaySpring Cards
The following week (July 18-22 window) I should be interviewing with another potential employer in Siloam Springs, AR. This is a Christian card company and I would work M-F as an Associate Product Manager for the Greetings card line. This job allows me to live closest to my girlfriend of 1.5 years, who has 2 years left at JBU (which is in the same town) and to continue serving in the church I have been a part of for the past couple years. However, it appears to pay the least.

I appreciate your prayers more than you can ever know.

God bless,
Kirk

Kirk,

I'll be praying for you in your decision making process. :) I have a friend that works at Epic Systems and loves the company and her job! I don't know anyone that works at the other two places. If you're driving to WI for that interview, let me know if you would have time to meet up somewhere since you'd be just an hour and a half from us!

A few thoughts:

#1 - God has blessed you with several options for employment during a time when many people have none.  You in turn are giving Him the glory, and that is exactly the right thing to do :)

#2 - Paying off school loans in 2 years is a great opportunity.  Especially with your girlfriend graduating at that same time, you would only have to then deal with her loans, instead of both at the same time.  However, money is actually the LEAST important part of any job.  Paying off your loans in 4 years instead of 2 isn't really a big deal, and you'll be MUCH happier if you spend those years doing something you love with people you enjoy.

#3 - International travel for half of every month sounds glamorous, and would be fun for a while.  But being away that much will take a toll on your relationships with people.  You're not married yet, so you shouldn't limit your life based on the relationships you are currently in.  But you should be aware of what you're risking.  At the same time, if it is God's will for you two to be together, and if you both keep following God individually, then He will lead you in the same direction and you'll end up still being compatible after all that time apart.

#4 - Questions to ask yourself:
"Which job is going to give the best opportunity to glorify God?"
"Which job is the best at doing something that I feel like makes a positive difference in the world?"
"Which job is the one that I feel like I fit in the best with the other employees?"

#5 - Since this is the prayer forum...I will pray for you to have wisdom to know what direction God is leading and the courage to follow it wherever it goes :)

Thanks for your prayers! I sent you a PM with my phone number Ken.

Mark,

I do appreciate the words of wisdom. You brought up some great points.

Update on the first interview: The food safety company is still 2-5 months away from hiring, with the hiring timeline most likely being closer to the end of the year. Then again, the hiring timeline could be bumped back even further, so it is difficult to potentially turn down other job offers and wait on that job with needing money to pay on my student loans. I think I could always come back to work for them at some later point as they really seemed to like me. The hiring manager has seen my work with my business plan (the same one I posted about prayers for business plan competition stuff) and he has seen me in meetings with clients that his company works with. The interview went well and I would have alot of opportunity to do my own thing within their company and have a lot of hands on opportunities to further develop my business experiences in traveling and developing strategies to meet client needs.

I fly tomorrow to WI and have my interview Thurs. I covet your prayers!

God bless,
Kirk

Kirk, Good Luck and Mark's words are very true.

I noticed you had Safeway on there and it looks down the road at best. Would you be interested in P&G in Cincinnati? If so, send me your resume and I will get it to their GM that manages developing new markets I believe. He can pass it on to other departments if you list for me which ones would be your desired areas. He is also their spokeman when religious issues come up....a very strong Christian and an Elder in my church. Take care, Allen

Allen,

Thanks for the idea, I sent you an email with my resume and typed out a cover letter to forward to your friend at P & G. By the way, I didn't apply to SafeWay, but rather SafeFoods, which is based in Little Rock. He can contact me directly at my kirk.dennison@gmail.com email. I could work in a large variety of departments due to my varied background, which includes sales, marketing, M&A, project management, and customer service.

I didn't see any jobs on the P&G website that lined up with anything I am looking for at this point, but I may have missed some cool opportunities or your friend may know of some other jobs opening up down the road.Either way, feel free to forward the email I sent you on to your other friend.

All,
Interview process went very well yesterday, praise God! I had a group interview, a presentation in front of a panel, a group interview, situation analysis, and 2 hours of written tests with some questions similar to the SAT, some similar to the LSAT, and other random stuff.

I will find out within 1 week if I am offered a job there.

God bless,
Kirk

Praise God! Epic offered me a job today! I will find out the salary details tomorrow. I would need to decide and move up to Wisconsin in the next week and a half as I would start work on August 1st. Please be praying that God gives me wisdom whether I should take the job or not.

Thanks,
Kirk

That's great that you have the opportunity to make the decision! I'll be praying for you, and we would love to have you join us up here. ;D But I'll be praying for wisdom in the decision, not simply for you to move. ;)

Received all the compensation details so now time to pray about it very seriously and decide whether to accept it or restart the job search process (all the jobs I initially applied to have looked elsewhere or have slow hiring timelines, ie the end of the year so I would have to start applying heavily again to other jobs and start the interview process again if I turn down this job).

I also found out DaySpring is primarily considering another applicant for the position there at this point and they informed me of that today. I am glad they told me so and I view it as God closing another door. I believe God may be pushing me towards the Epic job but will pray over it more to be sure. All Glory to God!

Congratulations!

By the way, you'll be in the Midwest Region. ;)

If you need help with the unpacking part of the move, let me know, and I can probably head that way for a day.

My bad, I forgot it was still part of the MW. :) I will let you know, but at this point I won't have any clue when that would be as I have to find a place to live first.

Nick and Ken,

Thanks for your offers to help! My dad will be coming up with me and we will spend the better part of the day on Fri and Sat searching for apartments and getting me moved in (Lord willing!)

I can save your phone number Nick and let you know if I will need any help when I arrive. Where do you live? I will PM you my number. If I don't end up needing help moving in, I could just meet up at some point to hang out.
