Hey, all:

Is there a sideboard allowed at sanctioned tournaments (i.e. the upcoming Nationals tournment)?

...cards that you can switch in and out of your deck. That would be problematic for Redemption though b/c of the requirements for Lost Souls. People could take them out instead and no one would ever know.

Say a player has a 56 card deck and a 10 card sideboard. In between rounds, a player can switch any of the cards from the sideboard into the deck and take cards out of his deck. If a player knows his next opponent typically uses sites, he may switch out some cards to add more site access from his sideboard.

i've always been a big proponent of implementing a sideboard. however, it wouldnt serve much purpose as we only play 1 round anyway. it would be helpful if you somehow know what kind of meta you're playing in, and switch cards out in between rounds. im direly tired of decking 1-2 site accessors, and no one plays a site deck at the tournament

Okay, thanks. Yeah, I realize it wouldn't be as helpful since we only play one round per opponent. I just remember playing in some Magic: The Gathering tournaments (I even played Regionals a couple of years), and the matches are best two out of three. A sideboard was allowed to switch cards in/out of your decks.

yeah, i realize there will be site decks at nats, but i've been to quite a few states/regionals/a couple nats even where i did not play a single site deck. the last time i ever remember playing against a site deck in a high-calibur tournament was at least 5 years ago...midwest regionals in iowa...against hedgehogmans site lockout deck. it ended in a tie, but im still quite fond of that being one of the best games i've ever played in my life.

you add type 1 and type 2 together:

60 card min deck
4 of any character/enhancement except multi
3 fort unique rule
7 ls to win

best 2 of 3
15 card sideboard

i for one would LOVE that format. 4 may be a bit much tho...maybe 3 of every card.

I played in California Regionals last year, and didn't encounter a single site lock-out deck. However, I got a bye for a round and got to play against Bryon using a site lock-out. Since then, I've only played against one other person who has a site lock-out deck, so I am pretty woefully unfamiliar with them. However, I have included some site access cards in my Nationals deck, just in case.

i understand what you're saying...but site lockout decks are used few and far between. if redemption ever implements a sideboard, access sites would be the first thing to go in mine.

But again, you have to know that your opponent is playing sites in order for that to be useful...

Yeah but if its a 15 card sideboard after the first game I switch out the following:

Babylonian Banquet Hall
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon
Babylon
Pergamum
Hand D/C soul
Deck D/C soul
Site Doubler
and whatever 6 cards I was using solely to stop site access and replace them with

Whatever 3 staple LS I don't already have in.
and then Civilization cards to supplement the offense and defense of whatever deck I'm playing.

Because now that you know whats coming, I can assume that you'll switch in site access, so I switch out all my sites, and out-flank you.

What if before the round began each player would place all their sites & lost souls face up from their deck, then sideboarded so many cards in or out. So then people would have a way to calculate the size of deck, # of cards added or subtracted to deck, and a visual accountability that the number of lost souls & sites weren't compromised.

No. When I am playing sites, the most critical turns are the early ones when I do not have sites drawn and my opponent does not yet know that I am using them.
