Is It Legit?

I am planning on organizing the 30 hour famine at my church in April.  During that time, we will have a lock in at the church so everyone is not at home looking at their refrigerators.  I would like to host a tournament during that time but do not want to take up a whole day doing it due to the other people who don't play.  I was thinking of a way to spread it out during the thirty hours.  Here's my idea that I want to see if it would be okay to do (of course, the tournament would be a closed local so only those who participates in the thirty hour famine could play)

Instead of having all the games going at once for a few hours straight, they would be broken up.  I would let them know who they need to face and give them a time limit to when they face them (i.e. tell them they need to face them before midnight).  I would have a designated room for the games and I would have to be in there the whole time they play their games (to keep the time limit and to judge/record the results).  There would only be a few players so there probably be a max of four rounds in T1-2p and only one round of T1-multi (so there would be plenty of time to get the T1-2p games finished up before needing to do the T1-multi).  They also would not have a chance to exchange cards inbetween rounds (since I hold all the extras in the first place (though I would check their decks before each game to make sure their not trying to hide their lost souls)).  In the end, it would be like a version of Ironman at Nationals (it would also be interesting how the players perform the longer they haven’t eaten).

So, would this be okay to do or will each time needs to be completed from start to finish without stopping?

The host guide specifically allows round robin style of playing, which has all players play all others without time limits.  I would think it would be okay.

Nice find :).  I have played swiss style so much that I forgot that there are other official ways to play :P.  I'll probably just go with the round robin style.

Thanks :).

The 30 hour famine is great. I helped host one with a youth group I used to co lead. (been awhile though) Advice, don't go to a breakfast buffet to break the fast. You will get sick. A light breakfast of fruit and grains should be all one needs.

Side note, I wish we had something like Redemption to take our minds off of being hungry. You could take some other games like Settlers and the sort for others to play.

Don't know if you have ever played Fluxx. Great game, fun and it can last for hours if you play the cards right.

haha, our church did pizza once. everybody but my sister was stupid enough to eat it. guess who wasn't sick the next day? the next year we had rice instead.

unfortunately, our church doesn't do 30 hour famine anymore...

I believe it's allowed, but only for Local tournaments. Anything above Local has to be Swiss-Style.
