Cancel / Postpone tournament with 3 players?

I have never been in this situation before but it appears that there will only be three of us at a tournament I am hosting in the morning. Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation?

If so, did you play out the tournament with just three people or did you postpone it until a later date when more could attend?

I don't remember ever having a tournament with only 3 people.  However I have had many times when there were only 3 people playing in an individual event (usually T2-mp).  We always went ahead and let them play knowing that they were all guaranteed to place in the top 3 and get some booster packs.

I think that going ahead with the tournament as scheduled rewards the people who actually showed up, and sets the precedent that scheduled dates are important.  If you postpone the tournament, then that tells all the people who didn't come that they can control whether a tournament happens by not showing up, which I think is a bad message to send.

I agree that the show must go on. I have not had one that small either, but I would have continued on.

As a side note, unrelated to the question here, I think it is important to note that you cannot proceed with any multiplayer events unless there are at least three people. You cannot rationalize that since only two people showed up, then you will just have to have a two-person multiplayer game.

I have had a decent amount of tournaments with only three people.  Many of those being myself, my wife and either a friend or cousin, or Jonathan.  My last few tournaments have been around 5 people, with his kids in addition.

There was at least one time back in Kentucky that we played a tourney with Mark, myself and my wife, either at his place or mine.

If you can take the hit in tournament cost, at least you win big when you end up playing in every category.

Yep, that was when I first met you guys.  I remember being excited that someone besides me was hosting a tournament in KY, and I happened to be in the area that day so it worked out great for me to drop by.  I miss you guys being around, and look forward to getting to play together again someday :)
