Is there a large player base in FL?

I think YMT has a good sized group and Florida has never had Nationals before.

The issue is a lack of venue down here more than anything. Fl has about 10-15 players I believe.

We were consistently in the 20s for major tournaments, but venue is an issue. My house can hold up to 25 players comfortably, so we have used that primarily. The church I used a couple of times has plenty of room, but only one set of bathrooms and no showers. My house, by comparison, has three full bathrooms. I also have a pool, so we can do Roman-style bathing.  ;)

We certainly have plenty of cheap hotels (or expensive ones if you're that kind), one of the busiest international airports in the world, restaurants galore, and magical entertainment only found at the Vacation Capital of the World. So people would be more likely to come here for a full vacation, and just happen to pop in for the Redemption Tournament.

I have looked around, but I just don't have the money to rent a venue. There are certainly plenty of options. It's a shame that the humongous churches in this area are so aversive to Redemption. I wish I could do more.

Yes, there are definitely players in Illinois. I can vouch for those in the Chicago area. I just don't think they're on the boards at all.

I agree Florida is a great spot for families to plan vacation, and those that play can attend nationals, and those that don't have a lot of other opportunities down here to enjoy themselves.

I agree that the humongous churches in this area are aversive to Redemption, I'm not sure why, but based on that I intend to research other possibilities in the next couple of months so that I'm in a good position to put a bid in for Nats in 2015

I would've tried Florida in 2014, but with the short notice it wouldn't be enough time to put together a good bid.

PS, depending on location, I may actually be able to attend Nats this year, my job is flexible enough it may allow for it this year.

The east side of the country has gotten Nats a lot recently, with pretty poor results to show for it. In the last four years, Nats has been in Boston, New York, and Tennessee, and all three of those locations have posted numbers that were significantly below the average. Now admittedly, a lot of that can be attributed to waning interest in the game, which means that it's especially important to post high numbers to keep people interested. New York City was, in theory, an excellent location due to having multiple large playgroups within an 8 hour drive, and it posted the lowest numbers since Covenant Games has kept track of it. As others have noted, I'm all for fairness, but Redemption needs to regain its strength before the game can afford to have a national tournament in a location we know is going to have poor attendance (e.g. Florida). That's why I'm strongly advocating for MN this year, and maybe even next year: We know we'll get good numbers. I'm not exactly biased either, as MN is a 24 hour drive for me.

I know my opinion really doesn't matter, but here it is anyway. I believe numbers have been down, not to lack of interest,  but lack of money. For most it's hard to drive 8 plus hours to a location,  taking time off work, or cost of plane ticket. I do think we should push for high attendance. New York had only 75 (I couldnt be there),we and 110 in Knoxville,  & MN had 155. Now those might be down from years past, but anytime you get a group together of that size, its a blessing. I know we've had our struggles with getting our group together, but It just seems people are more busy nowadays. I will say, we would love to have it back in Knoxville and we are already preparing for it...adding showerd to our facilities. But if we go by rotation history, it is MN turn so to speak. Obviously if it's here in Knoxville,  I'll be there. Any other location, I'm trying my best to get there. Just need a definite date. Blessings!

Chicago seems feasible. Not that far from Minnesota either. And Pequod's has the best deep dish and wings ever.

Part of the reason for that is having worthless prizes. I can't tell you how much money I lost going to New York despite placing in 2 events. People are more inclined to travel if there's at least a chance of making the money back.

FTR, I have already spoken out about how impractical having Nats in Florida would be. Most states border several other states in all directions, allowing for many people to reach Nats without as much travel time. Unfortunately, Florida does not border many states in any direction other than north. To our west is the Gulf of Mexico, to our east is the Atlantic Ocean, and to our south is the Caribbean. Even getting to Orlando from the north is a trip, since it is at least three hours to the nearest border.

That's why I'm strongly advocating for MN this year, and maybe even next year: We know we'll get good numbers.

I think the idea was to have it in that region all along, so MN is the obvious next best option.

I'm not exactly biased either, as MN is a 24 hour drive for me.

I will disagree with you on this point, but let me explain. You are conceding region only because you already got to have Nats near you in recent years. For people like me, on the other hand, the nearest Nats was 10 hours away. If there was ever a Nats just a few hours drive away, I would have made the trip. To never allow that opportunity to certain groups is not fair, hence the "fairness" debate. That was why it was so important to have a California Nats, regardless of turnout. Being consistently left out of the Nats picture just because of my address will not garner much support in the long run. Just my  :2cents:

I would rather have Nats be a million miles away and not be able to attend, yet have a good turnout with some great coverage.

Yet, if there are some great people who keep missing Nats, it is not fair to them either. I also would like a great nats, but I have almost allways had a nats near sine I live in the Twin Citties.

Sustainability of the game > fairness at this point. No card game is supposed to cater towards select individuals, no matter how 'great' they are. Does anyone else remember back in the day when every single Nationals was held in Kansas City?

Non-Minnesotans think it should be in MN, Minnesotans (or at least yirgogo) don't want it to be in MN... Hmmm... It should be in Minnesota. I'm breaking the trend.
