Where did you get your name from?

I know some of the obvious like people's names. ;) but is there a back story to your name.? If so share!

Mine was a conversation I had with my youth pastor talking about nothing being impossible and I said "try to drown a fish" turns out you really can.

A long, long time ago in a city far, far away I had an idea for a Redemption T2 deck based around a card called Passover Preparation, the offense was mono Red and used a bunch of no special ability red characters, one of them was the old 4/4 Christian Soldier, being as small as possible and a NT character he was quite good. That happened to be around the time that I became a board member, so I just used him for my board name.

Well, a long long time ago, there was a giant flamewar on whether Christianity should have absorbed holidays like Yuletide and Easter. The argument made by one forum member was so compelling, I decided to never celebrate Easter again.  Instead, I celebrate Wester.  Although most people who celebrate Wester like me often refer to themselves as men of the Westernesse (some call themselves of the Westboro), my friends instead decided to call me a "West-ee".  One of their younger brothers started calling me "West-ee" at a Redemption tournament.  Then a man of the East, my closest enemy, decided that was hilarious, and he started calling me "Westy".  Eventually it caught on, and I changed my forum name.

Curious to hear the stories behind some of the forum members. Specifically...

Contrary to what MIGHT be popular belief, I am not a fan of the minions in Despicable Me. (I think they are an annoying element in that movie.) Anyway, I liked the word minion, and why not add "of Jesus" onto the end?

My username is one I've had since my first forays into the wonders of the internet. I was big into the original Starcraft and I had to create an account to play online so I took the name of the expansion (Brood War) and stuck the words together. Thus "browarod" was born.

So I guess I've been pronouncing it wrong in my head this whole time...for that I apologize.
Browarod in my head pronunciation = Brow wuh Rod

As for my name:
Early on, I wanted to be good at this game and wanted a name to reflect that.  So I chose...Prince of this Game...unfortunately for me: the name was already chosen.
With my only idea laid waste, I struggled to find a name that would represent who I hoped to be in this game.  I turned to my wife for help. She suggest Soul Saver since that was the point of the game but that didn't feel right since I can't save anybody..that is Jesus' job (my trepidation worked out because another forum member had a similar name).  She then offered "Soul Seeker" since I was looking to help souls in real life (I'm a youth pastor) and I searched out souls in the game.  I liked it and have used it since as my avatar for internet gaming.

Haha, no need to apologize. I didn't even have a pronunciation for it until more recent years when voice chat started becoming more popular and it needed to be said out loud occasionally. I have since adopted internet handles that are easier to say (my MMO username is usually Lashen now, or Gnorlin), but I think your in-head pronunciation is actually correct. I usually say browarod thusly: "brow" (like grow) "a" (like the article a, a pencil, but a short a more like "ah" than "ay") "rod" (like rod, of iron, lol) if that helps. :P

I do like the idea behind your name, fits more with Redemption than mine does, haha.

Back in the early days of my joining the boards (back in 2006), I went by the name Gideon. Gideon was one of my favorite characters to play with in the Victory at Hebron game for some reason. :P

Then, for some reason, I couldn't log in to my account so I created Lampy. Instead of Lampstand of the Sanctuary, I got my screen name from a villain in Larry Boy.
Spoiler (hover to show)
At any rate, I had troubles with that account (for not being able to log in for some reason :P) and then I created this account: Lampy 2.0.

When I first joined the Boards, I was teaching at a Christian school in Connecticut. My playgroup was made up of students at my school, including several who were students in my math classes. For some reason "EvilMathTeacher" was already taken, so I used "Your" instead.

I use the "gamer name" I've had since creating the (now defunct) Dragon Dice Research Consortium back around 2000. When I used the name for my e-mail account, the acronym DDRC was already taken, so I just spell out the word dice. (Unlike most Redemption players, I'm more of a dicer than a card gamer.)

The Lamborghini Diablo SVTT was my favorite car back when I made my first online account (I think it was Yahoo...), and I've stuck with some variant of the name ever since.

It doesn't mean anything. Its just what I used as my screen name back in middle school because it was available, and I've just ended up using it for everything ever since.

My username was simple.

At the time of registering on the forums I could not think of much names , so I just thought of one of the things I do with redemption cards , one of them being collecting them and the good number 777.

So I came up with "Redemption Collector 777"

I was reading the Communist Manifesto and realised that several lines seemed to be referencing a near extinct Shakespearean-era manuscript. I subsequently left the states, flew to Stratford-upon-Avon, met a kindly man who agreed to let me excavate his field, and spent several months in the trenches. Little did I know that my mission had drawn attention from Cotwolds natives, who made it clear to me that there were no traces of the manuscript and not a sighting-of since the 1200's. Luckily I overheard a conversation between a Legation and a land owner, which tipped me off that they planned to sabotage my excavation and report me to the Stratfordian officials (Legations apparently don't possess the authority to deport suspicious individuals). I knew right away that I had to undergo an identity transformation, so I took on the identity of a man deceased 30 years ago. He had no surviving family, so naturally I would undergo little harassment. Never again; it was a huge mistake. Anyway, the name of the man was Daniel, so for some reason I thought it was appropriate for the message board.

PS. 3 years later, I found the supposed manuscript in a package at my door. No return address; nothing. I still haven't read it, who knows whether it's legitimate?

The main character of Ted Dekker's Circle series. If you haven't read them, I can't recommend them enough. Start with Black.

Uthminister is Youth Minister without the "Yo" and then squished together because I am a Youth Minister. The "BR" on my tag is a memorial of a good friend of mine who was a wonderful person, committed follower of Jesus, fellow youth minister, and excellent Redemption player, Brian Reid. He and his wife both died in a card accident several years ago while traveling back to West Virginia from Indianapolis, Indiana for a family gathering.

More about Brian (I believe Goldranger was his board name), after  the gathering he was going to swing by Cincinnati for my Redemption tournament.  He was a tough competitor that helped make me a better Redemption player early in my playing career.  After I asked about him on the boards (because he didn't attend the tournament as planned or respond to my calls), an article was shared about his death.

Since I have 3 names (One original, one my current and one my gamer tag) this may be a bit odd.

My original name was redemption_rocks. I liked redemption, I liked rock music, I thought redemption rocked. So the name happened.

My current handle "TheKarazyvicePresident" came from a number of sources.  The first was the board transition from the EZboards to here. A mock election was held for the new president of the boards since we moved. I was the vice president to my running mate "Orangebus". We won the election by moderator intervention. (We had majority vote when the thread was closed). So I became Redemption_rocksVP.

From that point it stayed that for a while until an incident involving my group the TKP (The Karazy people). Another board member had joined our group, which was known for trolling and goofing around and honestly just being weird, and began to be very vocal about how awesome we were. This prompted other groups to spawn and argue back about who's group was the most awesome. This reached a climax where groups were not allowed on the board by the almighty "Thug" Gray (Doug Gray). So in one last act of defiance (for I felt slighted at the fact that a group I had grown up with had been disallowed to enjoy a place we called home in the same way we normally did on the actions of others.) I changed my name to TheKarazyvicePresident. (The capitals spell TKP). I was contacted by Doug soon after, he had noticed my obvious act of defiance AND said I could keep it so long as I didn't use it to cause more trouble and I haven't. To me it is a reminder of bittersweet days gone by, old friends, and a more stress free time.

My gamertag which I use in everywhere that is not here is "Doominbottle". Which came from my take on a Strong Bad's Teen Girl Squad joke "Staple sauce". I was talking with a friend and turned it into an infomercial saying if you bought a bottle of staple sauce you would get a crate of doom in a bottle free. I thought that was a cool name! So I went to put into a name for runescape (my online game of choice at the time) but alas! It was one character too long, So I took the A out and in so Doominbottle was born and I have used it ever since.

Edit: Oh and my fourth name "Joshua" was given to me by my mother upon birth.

Same here, I figured if I didn't do it, it wouldn't happen since YMT didn't jump on it.

My original name, "Chronic Apathy," came from a Relient K song ("Apathetic Way to Be"). I liked the song, liked the idea of apathy in general, and it kinda clicked with me. It's still my online handle for almost everything else. A couple years ago I started getting bored of it, so I asked Roy to change it to Chris, which is my real name. It's cleaner, and hopefully some people get me mixed up with Chris Bany and think I'm important.
